I’m delighted to welcome Annalise back to the blog! I have
had the pleasure of photographing this young lady ever since she was a newborn—and
yes, in answer to the question I know you’re asking, she has always had those
amazing chubby cheeks and deep dimples. Lucky girl! I hope she keeps those
dimples forever—they’re the best!
Annalise just turned 2 years old, so her mom decided to do a
mini milestone photography session
for her. These types of sessions are only available to clients who have been
with me since they were newborns, and it’s a great way to capture a smaller
number of high-quality images around birthdays and other life milestones. If it
sounds like something you’re interested in, I’ve got more information here.
Like many two-year-olds, Annalise has an eclectic mix of
interests, prominent among which are ducks, bubbles, and balloons. It’s the
simple things in life, right? Also like many two-year-olds—okay, all two-year-olds—Annalise pretty much
does what she wants to do, whether there’s a camera pointed at her or not, so
her mom decided it would be a good idea to bring some distractions along. These
took the form of lots of fun bubbles and bright balloons that served double
duty: props for our child photography
session, and entertainment for an easily distracted subject! We didn’t bring
the ducks, in case you’re wondering. They came with Alton Baker Park and were
considerate enough to make an appearance in our photos once they realized Annalise
had brought them dinner.
I met Annalise and her mom at Alton Baker Park near sunset,
partly to catch those gorgeous rays, and partly because we figured the park
would be quieter at that time of day. It’s a popular spot, and there is always lots
of foot traffic—plus some bike traffic, and even the occasional roller blader,
none of whom we wanted in our photographs. We were lucky though, and got lots
of great pictures featuring exclusively Annalise.
One of my favorite things about being a baby and child photographer is that pictures with young children
are so natural. Kids that age are still too young to be self-conscious, so what
you see is what you get—and it’s usually sweet, adorable, and so much fun! Such
was certainly the case with Annalise. She had a fantastic time popping bubbles
and feeding the ducks (well done, Mom, for being so prepared!) and I had an
equally fantastic time capturing her innocence and infectious delight on
camera.
This sweetheart is growing into such a big girl, and it was
great to celebrate another birthday with her. Annalise has another milestone
coming up, too. Her mom is pregnant, so very soon Annalise is going to be a
sister! I can’t wait to have her and her new little sis in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon. I
already know we’re going to get some amazing shots, so keep an eye out for them—you
won’t want to miss it!
