This little darling is Grace, who came into my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon a
few weeks ago with her parents, Michael and Cassandra, and big brother Jackson
for a newborn photography session. I’m
so excited for all of you to meet her!
We had a really fun session. It was great for me to meet
Grace and to see her family again. I’ve been photographing Jackson since he
turned one, so their family was very excited to introduce their newest member
to me—and I was very excited to finally meet her!
Since I’ve been photographing Jackson so regularly, of course
we all wanted to catch Jackson’s signature smile in a picture of the siblings
together. Not all toddler siblings want to sit with their new baby brother or
sister for a photo though, and Jackson was one of those kids that aren’t
thrilled with the idea. Fortunately, toddlers are also very susceptible to
bribery—and I’m not above using it! Some cajoling and a few fruit snacks later,
and we managed to get the picture Mom and Dad wanted so much. Totally worth it,
of course. Just look at those two! You can see why I was so determined to get
Jackson’s smile in there—it’s the best!
Cassandra wanted mostly dusty purples and olive greens in
Grace’s newborn photography session.
Grace takes after her mom with her fair skin and tint of light red to her hair,
and Cassandra thought green and purple would be great with her complexion. I
think she was right. Mom always knows best.
We didn’t use too many props: mostly fabrics like blankets
and hats. I love all the soft textures and relaxed movement of the cloths we
used—it conveys a sense of comfort and tranquility that is great for a baby photography session.
Grace is such a cute baby, with perfectly round chubby
cheeks that are absolutely irresistible. I love that soft fuzz of hair on her
head. She also gets the sweetest little half smile on her face sometimes when
she’s sleeping. I wish I could see whatever she’s dreaming about! I was able to capture her smile in a couple of our photographs,
but I think the one below might be my favorite. Maybe. It’s so hard to choose!
It was so wonderful to have Michael, Cassandra, Jackson and
Grace in my studio all together. I’m so excited to see their family growing,
and I love that as a newborn
photographer and baby and child
photographer I get to capture special times and special relationships like
this. I have loved all the opportunities I’ve had to photograph Jackson over
the last few years, and I hope I’ll be able to do the same thing with Grace. I
feel extremely lucky to have such a fantastic family as regular clients. They
are a pleasure to be with and I look forward to spending time with them at each
of our sessions.
I hope Grace’s pictures have gotten your weekend off to a
great start. They certainly make me smile!
