This beautiful little lady is Teagan, and I’m extra excited
to introduce her to you because I had to wait an extra long time to welcome her
to my photography studio in Eugene,
Oregon.
Teagan was a little too comfortable in mama’s tummy and wasn’t
sure she wanted to leave such a cozy spot for the big world outside. It was
three weeks after her due date before she finally decided to brave the journey
and meet us all, but we’re so glad she did! (Especially her mom, I’m sure!) Better
late than never, right? And Teagan was well worth waiting for.
It was another three weeks after her birth before Teagan and
her mom and dad—accompanied by the faithful family hound, Kona—made it into the
studio for a newborn photography
session. Teagan was such a good little photography subject! She was awake very briefly
during our photo shoot—just long enough for me to capture her beautiful,
baby-gray eyes—and then snoozed away peacefully during the rest of the session
and was absolutely wonderful.
My biggest challenge was actually finding outfits in my
collection that she would fit in, since she had grown so much and was such a
big girl by the time she came into the studio. We did manage to find a few cute
pairs of pants that weren’t too snug, but luckily babies look just as adorable
without clothes as with, so we just used hats, headbands, and swaddling
blankets for the rest of the pictures and called it good!
Isn’t she so cute? She has the best chubby cheeks and is so chunky!
Teagan’s parents, Brittney and Casey, decided to go with very
understated colors for their little girl’s newborn
photography session. We used a wide variety of colors, including plum, dark
gray, white, blush pink, lavender, cream, and mossy green. It seems a bit
disparate, but in fact, working with quieter colors like these allows for a lot
of different combinations that can be quite different, but still work
harmoniously together. They even leave some room for more striking accent
colors, as you can see in the collage. Although the teal, navy, and peach are
quite different from most of the other colors we used, the upper right hand
picture still manages to look perfectly at home among the other photos.
We got some great pictures of Teagan with her mom and dad, a
couple of which are included in the collage, and also made sure that Kona was
included, watching faithfully over the newest member of the family.
I’m so glad Teagan decided it was time to see the world! I had
a great time photographing her and would have missed a real treat if she had stayed
curled up in her mama’s tummy. As a newborn
photographer it was kind of fun to photograph a slightly “older” baby—or one
who looked a few weeks older, anyway! Teagan is such a cutie pie and I’m sure
she will make the world a better place. She’s already made my world better!
