I was able to welcome Vivian to my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon just a couple of days after
Christmas. She was brought in by her parents, Kendall and Louie, for a newborn photography session, and was so
good for me the whole time.
As a Eugene, Oregon
photographer I’ve had the chance to photograph so many new babies, and I
truly love the opportunity to work with all of them. A while back, when I did a
workshop with some other photographers from different areas, several of them
commented on how beautiful Eugene babies are! I don’t know if it’s something in
the water or what, but I would definitely have to agree that all the little
ones who come through my studio are amazingly cute and adorable. That being
said though, Vivian was unquestionably one of the most beautiful babies I’ve
ever worked with! It helps that she has such good-looking parents. Kendall and
Louie certainly passed on some good genes to their daughter!
Little Vivian had such perfect skin. I’m not sure how she
managed to get a California tan in Oregon, in the winter, mere weeks after
birth, but her skin is a dark golden color that is frankly amazing. Her
features are all so perfectly balanced too. It isn’t just skin deep either: she
has the sweetest personality into the bargain. She was such an easy baby to
work with. A real angel, and such a great little sleeper. Mom and dad got very
lucky with this one!
I love the colors Kendall chose for Vivian’s newborn photography session. We used
pink almost exclusively in this session, but in such soft, varying shades that kept
it from being overwhelming and instead made all the pictures really work
beautifully together. I’m a big fan of the deep blush shades that almost venture
into the realm of lavender, which we used in combination with my antique white
bed prop. So feminine and elegant!
I also loved how some of the warmer, more ruddy shades of
pink brought out the warmth of Vivian’s skin. She just seemed to have a soft
glow about her when we used that particular color as our background.
We also stayed with very soft textures, using lots of yarns,
silky ribbon, and woven fabrics. A snippet of lace or a flower here and there
add some elegance and variety without detracting from that cozy feel. Vivian
looks so sweet and comfortable in all the pictures.
It was a pleasure to be the newborn photographer for this sweet baby girl and her parents. They
really were wonderful to work with and we captured such beautiful images for
them to share and look back on. I hope I get to photograph Vivian again in the
future—it’s always so fun for me to watch these babies grow into toddlers and “big
kids.” Regardless though, I’m happy I was able to meet this family and help
them celebrate the joy of being together during these early days of Vivian’s
babyhood.
