Tess and Tim brought new baby Genevieve and big sister
Chiara to see me early this month. I photographed Chiara almost exactly two
years ago as a newborn, and again at six months old, so it was wonderful to see
her again. She was one of the cutest babies I’ve ever photographed, and is
growing up just as adorable as ever. I can see so much of her mom in her too. Doing
Genevieve’s newborn photography session
brought back so many great memories, because this little one looks so much like
her big sister did at that age. Same beautiful dark skin, perfect round cheeks,
and adorable propped open mouth with just a little bit of pink tongue showing!
I remember wanting to just wrap Chiara up and keep her when I did her baby
session, and I felt exactly the same way about Genevieve!
Genevieve’s mom and dad have done her nursery in a celestial
theme with lots of gray, blue, and purple, so I used a lot of those same colors
in this newborn photography session.
It was also the perfect opportunity to use my moon and stars prop, as it ties
in beautifully with the nursery theme. Doesn’t she look so cute snoozing away
in her own personal starry night?
Tim and Tess are big Star Wars fans, so we managed to tie
that in as well, with a frankly adorable Yoda cap and the tiniest light saber
you’ll ever see. Who knew sci-fi weaponry could be so cute, right? We actually
did a similar picture with Chiara when she was a newborn, although she got a
Princess Leia cap. I don’t know if either of them is destined to become a great
Jedi master, but they sure make for sweet little Padawan learners!
Genevieve’s parents also love unicorns, so we made sure to
include a unicorn headband with lots of gold and glitter!
Chiara and Genevieve are so cute together. I got a few shots
like this one, with just the two of them, and I love how they turned out.
Chiara has a fantastic smile that lights up her whole face, and even Genevieve
woke up long enough to show off her pretty dark eyes.
I think one of my favorite pictures from our newborn photography session is the one
below. We used very rich, dark colors that lend a deliciously velvety texture to
the whole image. And by blurring the shot just slightly at the edges I was able
to create an idea of movement—almost like little Genevieve is flying through
space at the speed of light!
It was such a treat to have this family in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon.
They are a wonderful group—and so easy to photograph! I’m delighted that I got
to see Chiara and her mom and dad again and to meet the newest member of the
family, and so grateful for the opportunity to be the newborn photographer for
both of these precious girls!
