Caitlin and Mark brought their new baby boy into my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
last month for a session. Rupert was such a sweetheart and I loved every minute
I spent with him! We actually did this session on my birthday, and it ended up
being a wonderful gift for me as a newborn
photographer because he slept the entire time and posed like a dream. Such
an easy baby to work with!
Rupert was such a handsome little guy! He had soft, wispy
hair, and a sweet and oh-so-serious face. His contentment as he slept was absolutely
adorable.
Although we did a full session, which can take up to three
hours, Rupert was so well-behaved that I had all the shots we wanted wrapped up
in less than two hours. Talk about efficiency! I always make sure to book that
extra time for newborn photography
sessions because new babies can be so unpredictable. Sometimes they’re super
sleepy and easygoing, and other times they are really not into the whole posing
thing. I have to factor in that time to calm baby down in case they’re fussy,
but obviously it was completely unnecessary for this little guy.
Caitlin and Mark did Rupert’s nursery in a woodland theme,
and we wanted the pictures to match that, so we used rustic props like my log, browns
and rich blues for our colors, and lots of hats! I have a lot of woodland
animal hats and outfits—bears, foxes, deer, etc.—so it was perfect for this
session and we had lots of fun choosing outfits for Rupert and getting so many
cute pictures of this sweet little man.
Rupert’s mom and dad also brought in one of his toys—a stuffed
alpaca that was super cute and soft—to include in the photos. I’m sure that
will be fun to look back on as Rupert gets older and remembers that favorite
stuffed animal friend from when he was little.
We got a couple shots of Rupert with his parents too. They
are so excited to have him in their lives and are adjusting really well to this
big change! They certainly got lucky with such a happy and relaxed little one.
Of course, since it was December and only a couple of weeks
away from Christmas, our newborn
photography session wouldn’t have been complete without a nod to the
holidays. So we made sure to get a couple pictures like this one, where our
colors are definitely more Christmas-oriented and Santa Claus watches
protectively over this precious bundle!
Working with Rupert really was a fantastic birthday present
for me. Most people end up having to work on their birthday, but as a Eugene, Oregon photographer I find that
work is almost always fun, and it’s especially so when I get to be with such
a sweet and contented baby! He was a real treat to photograph, and it was a
wonderful experience to celebrate my special day and Rupert’s special day
together!
