This was such a fun outdoor maternity photography session! Brittanie had asked me a few months
ago about going to the snow for her maternity session, which I was definitely
willing to do. I love the snow and hardly ever see it here in Eugene. We
decided to shoot at Odell Lake, about an hour and a half southeast of Eugene in
Oregon’s Cascade mountains.
I have to admit, I started to get a little worried when it
still hadn’t snowed in the pass a week before we were scheduled to do our
session! It’s been a really mild winter, which is great most of the time—but
not so much when you’re counting on snow. Mother Nature took pity on us though,
and sent gorgeous white flakes pouring down to earth for the entire week
leading up to our visit. What a relief!
As a Eugene, Oregon
photographer I generally stay a little closer to home for most of my
outdoor photography sessions, so this was my first trip to Odell Lake. It was
well worth the drive and did not disappoint. The contrast of the white snow
against the green trees was beautiful, and the lake and mountains made for a
truly majestic background. We even got some sunshine while we were there, which
was wonderful and made for some pretty lighting in some of the shots.
Brittanie wore my blue maternity dress, which stood out like
a jewel in our photographs. She also wore my blue and white floral headpiece—a
perfect match for our color scheme. She looked stunning! It just goes to show
that winter photography sessions can be just as amazing as springtime sessions—and
that you can have an awesome outdoor session even in the colder months.
After we had gotten some really striking and elegant
pictures with Brittanie in the maternity gown, she changed into a more casual
and snow-friendly outfit so we could get some more casual photos of her and her
husband by the lake. Odell Lake is a popular recreation spot, so there are lots
of docks around it, which we used in this maternity
photography session. Since it’s the off season for boating, there was
plenty of unclaimed space for us to use, and I really liked the rustic look of
the railing.
I’m glad I was able to be the maternity photographer for Brittanie, and so happy that she
suggested going to the snow! It’s always fun for me to do outdoor photography. Although
it was chilly, it was a fun and unusual treat for me to spend some quality
camera time in a winter wonderland, and I enjoyed every minute.
I’m looking forward to seeing Brittanie and her husband
again next month—this time with their baby boy! I’m doing his newborn
photography session and can’t wait to have him in the studio. I already know he’s
going to be absolutely adorable and that we’re going to get some great
pictures. Keep an eye out for them!
