Nicole and James brought their sweet little guy Maverick in
to my photography studio in Eugene,
Oregon last month for his newborn
photography session. Maverick was such a cutie, with lots of soft dark hair
and the sweetest round face. Such a handsome boy!
Maverick was born a little over a month early, and in fact,
his early arrival meant that we missed the maternity session we had scheduled,
which was kind of a bummer. On the plus side though, we transferred the missed
maternity session to a family session to happen this summer, when Maverick is
six months old, so that will be really fun to see Maverick and his parents
again and see how things are going!
For being born early, Maverick was actually a really good
size—and it’s maybe a good thing he was extra excited to get here, because he
probably would have been a very big baby if he’d waited to be born full term. As
it was, he was a pretty comparable size with most newborns and we had no
trouble finding outfits for him to wear during our newborn photography shoot.
Nicole really let me lead the way on this session as far as
fabrics and props, and just told me she would like mostly grays and blues used,
so that’s what we did. Blue is a very common color for baby boys, and gray is a
wonderful neutral, so I had plenty of props and outfits in both colors that we
could choose from. Since gray was part of our color scheme I couldn’t resist
using my elephant ears cap. Doesn’t Maverick look so cute in it?
I also used a distressed metal bucket prop that I have, making it
nice and comfy for Maverick with plenty of blankets and soft fabric, and got
some pictures of him sleeping in it. It was kind of a fun treat for me to have
free rein with a lot of the materials we used in our session. My own preference
as a newborn photographer is for a
session to have lots of flow and continuity, so I stayed with only a couple of
background fabrics and just played around with different outfits, textures, and
a couple of props to give some variety.
Maverick was a great little sleeper and a very good
photography subject. He was super easygoing and even favored me with a couple
of smiles during this newborn photography
session! You can see his sweet, drowsy smile in the two bottom pictures of our
photo collage. So precious. Clearly he’s having sweet dreams and enjoying being
cuddled by mom and dad!
It was fun to use my skills as a Eugene, Oregon photographer to help Maverick’s parents welcome their
new little one to the world. This was a great session with a truly wonderful
family, and I loved the opportunity to work with them. I’m already looking
forward to seeing them again this summer and seeing how much Maverick has
grown!
