Happy birthday, Eric! This little guy is one year old now,
and came in last month with his mom, Kim, and big brother Tyler for his one
year photos. Eric’s dad, JD, had to work on the day we were scheduled to do
this one year birthday photography
session, which was too bad, but we still had a great time and got some good
family photos with Eric and his mom and big bro.
As a Eugene, Oregon
photographer I’ve had several opportunities to photograph this family. Let’s
see, I first met them when Tyler was six months old…so I guess it’s been about
four years now. Crazy! Where does the time go? Anyway, it’s always great to see
them. They are a fun and super sweet family, and the boys are so adorable with
their big brown eyes and curly hair! Such handsome little men!
I remember Eric being a very happy baby when I photographed
him as a newborn, and that sweet personality of his hasn’t changed a bit. He is
still an easygoing, happy little guy who loves to giggle and gave me lots of
wonderful smiles—as well as a sweet, winsome expression that is all his own! We
went with a pretty subdued, gentle color palette for the family photography portion of our session, and I think Eric
especially liked pretending to row the boat that we used as a prop. His big
brother was great with him too, and I love that they wore matching outfits!
In contrast with those relatively quiet colors, Kim wanted a
fun and colorful setup for the birthday
cake smash photography, so we used lots of bold primary colors with our
banner and balloons, and of course, with the frosting on the cake! Eric was
hilarious with his birthday cake. He absolutely loved digging into it—and I
mean the digging part quite literally! He had no problem with thrusting both of
his chubby little fists in there and smearing icing all over his face and tummy.
He even managed to get some on his toes, and did some finger painting with it
on the floor. A budding artist with a serious sweet tooth! Some babies don’t
like the sticky texture or sugary taste of the frosting, but Eric thought
everything about that cake was just awesome. It made my job as the baby photographer super easy, since I
didn’t have to do any coaxing to get some great expressions, and we all had fun
watching him enjoy the process of exploring and eventually demolishing his cake.
It was a treat to have Eric, Tyler, and Kim in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
once again for another fun and memorable session! I love being able to watch
these little guys grow up. Kim and JD are certainly raising a wonderful pair of
kiddos. They are a pleasure to work with and I’m so glad to be the lucky
photographer who gets to capture this family’s special moments and milestones!
