This was such a fun maternity
photography session! Brandi is my hairdresser so we’ve known each other for
a while, and I did her maternity photos when she was pregnant with her
daughter, Macie, as well as doing Macie’s newborn pictures. It was fun to see
Brandi and her family again this time around as they get ready to welcome a new
little boy!
Brandi is such a gorgeous lady, and always willing to go
along with any of my ideas, so we have lots of fun experimenting. Last time
around she was one of my first maternity clients to wear gowns when I had only
a few to choose from. And when Macie was born she was only the third baby girl
I had had in my studio in almost six months, so I had so many girly props and
outfits I wanted to use, and Brandi was totally willing to let me go to town! I
loved using her and Macie as my guinea pigs back then and they were both
terrific sports about it!
This time Brandi wanted an outdoor family maternity photography session as well
as a milk bath session. We went to Golden Gardens Park for the outdoor portion,
and I love how the photos turned out. This isn’t a location I’ve used too often
as a Eugene, Oregon photographer,
but it was great. It was a beautiful evening in late June, and Brandi, Zack,
and Macie just look so happy to welcome their new little man (who will be
arriving very soon—we expect him in mid-August.) The setting sun was beautiful
and I had fun playing with contrast during editing to make a few of the shots
more dramatic.
Golden Gardens Park used to be a bit of an overgrown spot
and not particularly pretty (the ponds in it were originally just pits filled
with rainwater, created by the excavation of gravel for road construction). Fortunately,
the community came together and transformed it into a picturesque setting, with
several lovely ponds, a neatly kept path around the perimeter, and lots of
grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees. It’s become a sanctuary for many birds,
frogs, and other water-loving wildlife, and makes a great photo op as well. We
certainly enjoyed it!
Brandi is always doing different things with her style, so
when she told me she was doing purple in her hair again I knew how striking and
dramatic it would look with her darker brunette hair, so I thought it would be
perfect for her to wear my black lace dress instead of the white one I usually
use for milk bath sessions. It created such an elegant contrast and worked so
well with her hair color. And of course, I used all purple flowers as well!
I’m so excited to have this family in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon in
the next few weeks once the new baby arrives! This is such a great group and I’m
so happy for this blessing in their lives!
