It was great to get together with Josh, Annabelle, and their
two adorable daughters, Annalise and Thea, last month for a photo shoot of the
girls. I have been photographing pretty regularly for this family since
Annalise was a newborn, and it has been a delight to be a part of their lives.
They are such nice people, and their girls are just the cutest!
We wanted to take advantage of the glorious summer weather
to do an outdoor baby and child
photography session, and had planned to do it at Dorris Ranch in Springfield,
but unfortunately they chose that day to close down the entire park for
maintenance. In all my years photographing there that has never happened to me,
so that was a bit of a surprise! Luckily for us, the Eugene/Springfield area
has no shortage of beautiful locations, and as a Eugene, Oregon photographer I’ve made it my business to get
familiar with them. We found a quick (and gorgeous) replacement location in
Owen Rose Garden right beside the Willamette River. Even though it wasn’t our
first choice, it couldn’t have worked out better. The flowers were in bloom (apparently
loving these warm temperatures as much as I am) and the pictures turned out
great—lots of background color and plenty of room for the girls to run and
play. We’re so lucky to live in such an amazing area!
Annalise and Thea had so much fun together in the gardens!
Outdoor sessions like this one can be fantastic, especially for children,
because the outdoors is just such a familiar and comfortable setting. Although
I try to make my photography studio in
Eugene, Oregon as cozy as I can, I think it’s easier for kiddos to relax
and feel like they can play and be themselves when they’re outside, so I often
find that I’m able to capture much more natural poses and expressions in an outdoor photography session. The
outdoors really is one of the elements of childhood!
These two girls, with their round faces, dimples, and sweet
smiles, are so beautiful, and it was great to see them interacting together as
sisters. I grew up with three sisters myself, and am now mom to two amazing
girls, so I really loved capturing the sibling connection with these two. Annalise
was great about taking care of her little sis, and it was great to see them
pick flowers, play games, and get along so well with one another.
The sundresses the girls wore were perfect—simple and
timeless. Classic and even vintage looks are always a good bet for baby and child photography and never go
out of style, so I thought mom and dad made a great choice with the outfits. It
was such a pleasure to do this outdoor
photography session with a family that I’ve gotten to know so well over the
last few years. I’m so grateful to them for being flexible with our last-minute
location change, and couldn’t be happier with the way our photos turned out!
