I got to welcome little Julia to my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon last month for a newborn photography session. What a
sweetheart! She came in with her parents, Elyse and Mike, and her big sister
Jayne, who I photographed as a newborn and when she turned one year old. It was
fantastic to see this family again! When I saw Jayne I could hardly believe it—she
has gotten so big! I guess I should have expected it, since it’s been over a
year since I last saw her in the studio, but somehow kiddos always stay the
same in our mind’s eye…until we see them with our physical eyes and realize
with a shock that they are growing up! She is a beautiful girl and is doing great
in her new role as big sister.
Elyse wanted lots of purples for Julia’s session, so we tied
in plenty of purple shades like lavender, lilac, and periwinkle, along with splashes
of teal, pink, and blue. We used quite a lot of florals as well, both in our
props and backdrops, and the pictures turned out lovely.
Julia reminded me so much of her big sister when Jayne was a
baby. (Don’t believe me? You can take a walk down memory lane and check out Jayne’s pictures from when she was a newborn.) Just like her sister, Julia is beautiful
with absolutely perfect skin. She was an amazing little sleeper too, and posed
like a dream for me. I think I could literally have done whatever I wanted and
she wouldn’t even have noticed, so we got tons of cute shots and a great
variety of outfits since she was so easygoing about being changed.
Elyse made Julia’s session a little more personal by
bringing some of her own hats and swaddles from home. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer, I always love when people bring props
of their own. I have plenty in the studio for them to choose from, of course,
but there’s something extra special about bringing blankets or other objects
for photos that baby can continue to handle and be familiar with as they grow
up.
Speaking of blankets, Elyse also brought in a beautiful
quilt that her sister had made, and I loved the colors in it! They were so perfect
for our newborn photography session
that it looks like the quilt was made specifically for our shoot, and it made
such a gorgeous, colorful (and amazingly cozy) backdrop. Julia is certainly a
lucky girl to have such a talented aunt!
It was a real pleasure to have this family in my studio
again and to help them celebrate the arrival of their newest member. They are a
wonderful family and it’s a delight for me to watch them grow. I loved catching
up with everyone and meeting little Julia. She is such a precious baby and has the
sweetest personality—I have a feeling she’s going to be a wonderful influence on
everyone she meets!
