Had a great family
photography session last month with Kim, JD, and their two boys, Tyler and
Eric! I’ve known Kim and her family for a while now, ever since Tyler was six
months old and I became their family
photographer. After their first session I found out that Kim and JD own
Modern Nail Salon and Spa here in Eugene, and that Kim has some pretty amazing
nail skills! I’ve been going to her for my manicures ever since and have been
so happy with the results. If you’re looking for a great nail job, Kim is your
gal!
As I said, I first met this family when their oldest was six
months old, and I’ve done many family sessions for them since, as well as
Eric’s newborn photos when he arrived. We decided to take advantage of the beautiful
September weather and do this session in the great outdoors. Mt. Pisgah is a
location I use regularly for my outdoor
photography sessions, and it’s always a fun spot, with plenty to keep the
kiddos occupied! Neither Tyler nor Eric were interested in posing for photos
this time around, which isn’t unusual for energetic boys this age! I decided to
follow their lead and just let them run and play while I followed them around
with a camera! The result was a very relaxed shoot with lots of candid photos,
which worked out really well. Kim and JD were super happy with the pictures and
I love them too!
Tyler and Eric had a great time playing in the fields and
along the edge of the river. They found endless delight in throwing pebbles
into the water and watching the resulting splash! It was fun to watch them
finding such delight in exploring. Being a Eugene,
Oregon photographer has taught me a lot about being flexible, especially
when working with children, and it’s part of why I love my job. Every session
is different, and every photo is unique to the family I’m working with. I
always want my clients’ time with me to be a good one (there’s not much point
in pictures that look great if they don’t bring back happy memories!) so if
something isn’t working out I’ve learned to try something different rather than
force things by pursuing my original idea. Not all sessions turn out the way I
expect, but I end up happy with each one of them!
It was a pleasure to spend a beautiful afternoon with such a
wonderful family! I was so happy that the warm weather extended into September
(actually, we’ve had quite a few nice October days as well—my fingers are
crossed that it will continue.) It made it easy to do this session outdoors
without worrying about the rain interrupting us or things getting chilly as the
evening came on. I think it was a really fun hour or so for all of us and I’m
especially glad that the boys had a good time!
