This little guy is Wolfgang, and he was an absolute angel for
me during his newborn photography
session! He slept like a dream, he was awesome about posing, and he is just so
handsome! His parents, Hang and Matthew, brought him in to my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon a
little over a month ago, and I loved meeting this sweet little man. His dad is
German, hence Wolfgang’s name, which is an unusual one over here but very
traditional in Germany. (I found out that it means “wolf path” or “wolf
journey.” Pretty cool, huh?) I think it’s great when names hark back to a kiddo’s
family or heritage in some way! It just connects the generations in a way that
is really special.
I loved the colors Wolfgang’s parents chose for this
session. Gray and blue is a color scheme I’ve worked with before; it’s a classic
and always a good one for boys, but the vivid, robin’s egg blue really made it
stand out this time and all the pictures turned out beautifully. The blue also
looked amazing with Wolfgang’s skin tone, which was such a pretty, deep color. And
coupled with that dark hair? He really is a stunning baby!
Although we held this newborn
photography session near the end of the summer, I think the simple blue,
white, and gray color scheme gave it a bit of a winter wonderland look, which
was kind of fun, as I was starting to get antsy for the cooler weather. We
played up the wintery look a bit with one of my backgrounds, which is
reminiscent of evergreens in the snow, and piled up lots of cushy white
softness to keep Wolfgang comfortable as he napped on my swing.
We also used lots of hats and soft yarn textures, which I
think accentuated the winter/holiday look and also lent some texture and
interest to our photos, which was perfect as we used a very simple color
scheme. I’ve found that I really enjoy working with just two or three complementary
colors, and I’ve noticed that the fewer colors you choose, the more you can
play around with texture. It really lends a sense of depth to the photographs
and makes them so gorgeous, but without being overly busy or distracting to the
eye.
It was really fun for me to meet this wonderful family, and
especially (of course) to get to know the little one. There’s a reason I started
out as a Eugene, Oregon photographer
by focusing on newborns! They are definitely my favorite to photograph and although
I’ve branched out and now do several different types of photography (all of
which I enjoy) I still have a soft spot for those brand new babies. Can you
blame me? I mean, just look at this little guy! So glad I got to meet him and
his parents! I enjoyed every minute of our time together and I’m delighted that
they asked me to be their newborn
photographer!
