Kelsey and Tyler booked a Fresh 48 session and a newborn
session with me a few months ago. A few days into November, I got the call that
Leon was coming! I went to Riverbend hospital less than twenty-four hours after
baby Leon was born to meet the new little man and do a Fresh 48 newborn photography session with him.
What a cutie!
Like many newborns, Leon was happy to be swaddled, so we got
lots of shots of him wrapped snugly in a soft blanket. As babies get older,
they tend to want to wriggle and move around, and being swaddled can frustrate
them, but as newborns, they almost all enjoy being tightly wrapped up. Leon also
liked to have his hands up near his face and in his mouth. Mom and dad said
that he had done that in all his ultrasounds!
Since Fresh 48 newborn
photography sessions pretty much always take place in the hospital, I like
to do the entire session in black and white. At my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon I get to control the color and
lighting, and I can move any distracting items out of the photographs. When you’re
shooting in a hospital room, you just have to work with what you’ve got!
Riverbend is actually kind of nice in that many of its rooms have large
windows, which let in a lot of natural light—great for taking photos. But like
any hospital, it’s set up for functionality, not aesthetics. Keeping all the
photographs black and white minimizes the impact on the eye of medical equipment,
and keeps the focus where we want it to be: on mom and dad and their precious
new infant.
Kelsey and Tyler are so excited about their sweet baby boy.
When that baby you’ve been dreaming about for nine long months is finally there
in your arms it is an absolutely miraculous experience. Almost surreal! As a Eugene, Oregon photographer, I love
being able to capture that.
Fresh 48 newborn
photography sessions are available to clients who purchase a full maternity
or newborn session. In my opinion, it’s well worth the investment. One of my
favorite things about Fresh 48 sessions is not only being able to record those
first few hours of life, but also the reality of these types of sessions. There
is something to be said for such a natural session: no posing, no props, just
holding and loving this brand new little one. Perhaps more than any other, a
Fresh 48 session is going to bring back memories not just of a stage of life,
but of a particular, life-changing event.
I loved being the newborn
photographer for Kelsey, Tyler, and Leon during this Fresh 48 session! I
also had Leon in the studio right before Thanksgiving for a full newborn
session. He was such a sweetheart and we got some wonderful photos. I’ll be
sharing them on the blog shortly, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!
