Kristina and Charley brought this little cutie in for his newborn photography session early last
month—just before I left on vacation. As a matter of fact, scheduling this
session was a bit of an adventure in and of itself! Baby Asa had to spend a few
days in the NICU after he was born, so our original date didn’t work. Usually
postponing, as long as you’ve already booked a session, isn’t a problem, but
that’s not taking vacations and a snowpocalypse into account.
If you live anywhere near Eugene, then you know we got hit
by an unusually big snowstorm in late February. We knew the snow was coming—but
we didn’t know we were in for eleven inches! It resulted in downed trees and
power lines, and lots of power outages. I was one of those who had my power
knocked out—not good news for a studio photographer! My photography studio in Eugene, Oregon isn’t particularly warm or
cozy without power, not to mention proper lighting, so we had to wait until
power was restored before we could get Asa into the studio.
Unfortunately, although I got power back after four days, I
was leaving the country for a vacation three days later. Yikes! I knew I
absolutely had to get Asa in for his newborn
photography session, so I went outside my normal schedule and did this
session when he was three weeks old, on the Saturday morning before I left for
my trip. Although Asa was a little bit older than most of the newborns I
photograph (I try to get new babies in for photos when they’re between seven
and fourteen days old—which is a pretty common time frame for most newborn photographers), he did a great
job. Photographing this sweetheart was a wonderful way to spend my Saturday
morning!
We used a simple color scheme of blue, gray, and brown, and
incorporated several different hats in our outfits. Asa looked adorable in all
of them! (Especially, in my opinion, the bunny ears!) He even woke up for a
little while and I was able to get some wide-awake shots, with this little guy
staring straight at the camera. He still had those gray-blue baby eyes, and was
so curious about what I was doing.
I’m so glad we were able to get this session done, despite
all the setbacks. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer
I do everything I can to prioritize my clients. I want you to have a great
experience during your session and to be more than happy with the resulting
photographs. It was good for me to be reminded that when my clients and I work
together as a team, we can make that happen—even if a snowstorm tries to put a
stop to it!
Congratulations to Kristina and Charley on their beautiful
baby boy! I loved meeting him and spending a small part of my weekend with this
great family, and I wish them all the best!
