My girls and I headed up to Washington again in May to visit
family and take my nephew Harrison’s 9-month photos. My daughters absolutely
adore their little cousin, and there was no way they were going to miss a
chance to see him! He has gotten so big since our last visit in
February. He has crawling down to a science and is always on the move! With
some help from his mom and dad he’s also figuring out walking. It was so cute
to watch him take those unsteady baby steps, clinging to his parents’ fingers,
and with the biggest grin on his face! Harrison is such a little daredevil
already too. Nothing scares him and he’s ready to try it all—especially if it’s
edible!
My sister Lea and her boyfriend Nick live on the Washington
coast and they wanted some photos on the beach. It was a little chilly but the
weather was clear, so we bundled up and headed out in the evening to enjoy the
waves, the sand, and the sunset. My favorite spot was where we did some of Lea’s maternity pictures in the summer of last year. It was fun to be there again—this
time with Harrison as well! I like the way the location ties these two sessions
together. The sunset was gorgeous, and the pink and gold light was the perfect
finishing touch on this super fun baby photography session.
Harrison had a great time playing on the beach. He is such a
happy baby and loves to explore, so it was the perfect place for him. He did an
awesome job staying up past his bedtime so we could capture that beautiful
sunset glow. He smiled the whole time and didn’t get the least bit cranky or
tired—although I’m sure he slept really well when we got home that night!
We did most of our baby photography session right
along the water. I love the way water catches the light and just adds a kind of
magic to pictures. It also gave Harrison the chance to squish the soft sand
between his little toes! We also got some photos in the tall grass on the
dunes. The grass was a great backdrop and gave a feeling of movement to our
pictures. It can be a little rough though, so we made sure Harrison had his
shoes on at that point!
I love being a baby photographer, and I am loving the
chance to chronicle Harrison’s life, from the time he was just a bump in mama’s
belly to milestones like sitting up and crawling. As always, none of us wanted
to say goodbye when it was time to head home to Eugene. I’m already looking forward
to our next trip up there—or maybe Lea and Nick will bring Harrison down to my photography
studio in Eugene, Oregon next time. Either way, can’t wait to see this
little cutie again, get more amazing pictures, and smother him with hugs and
kisses!
