Yingfei and her parents brought Ethan to my Eugene,
Oregon photography studio last month to celebrate him turning 100 days old.
While newborn and quarterly sessions for the first year of life are popular in
Western culture, 100 days is a common milestone for families of Asian heritage.
This has its origins in the fact that, traditionally, mom and baby stay at home
for the first hundred days after baby’s birth. Not all families adhere strictly
to that time these days, but a baby photography session around the
hundred day mark is still a very popular option for many families.
Ethan was such a happy, smiley little guy. Sometimes babies
get very serious when they see my camera, (which is adorable in its own way), but
Ethan wasn’t fazed a bit. He just burbled and smiled. Such a cutie! He isn’t
very mobile yet, but still super active. He loved to wave his arms around and
kick his feet! He’ll be cruising around under his own steam in no time. That’s
one of the fun things about photographing older babies: you can interact with
them a little bit more, and get a glimpse of their personalities starting to
blossom.
It was so fun that Ethan’s grandparents were able to join us
for this baby photography session. For full sessions like this, the more
the merrier! Parents and siblings are the ones who usually join in for
pictures, but if extended family can make it I’m happy to include grandparents,
cousins, aunts and uncles, etc. And of course, even though family pictures aren’t
included in my mini sessions, family members are still welcome to be there for
those as well. For more information about my full and mini sessions, you can
check out my investment page. And as always, if you have any questions
at all, please feel free to contact me.
Ethan’s family brought in a couple of different necklaces to
include in our images. This was a great way to highlight their culture—simple and
understated, but totally effective. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer I
keep enough props and accessories in my studio to ensure that there’s plenty of
variety, so every session is going to turn out unique, but it’s wonderful when
parents include a really personal touch like that.
We used blue and white for our color theme. I recently got a
little blue teepee with a pom-pom edge, and this was the perfect time to use
it! Ethan had a great time playing with the soft pom-poms. They were just about
the perfect size to fit in his little fist. (And mouth, of course. Babies think
everything is designed to be chewed on!)
I loved having this sweet little man and his family in the
studio for a milestone baby photography session. Ethan was such an easy
baby to photograph! Congratulations to Yingfei on a healthy, happy baby boy,
and to Grandma and Grandpa on a truly adorable grandson! Best wishes for the
next hundred days—and beyond!
