I love that Brittanie and Colby enjoy traveling for maternity
photography sessions! When Brittanie was pregnant with their first son, Knox,
we traveled to Odell Lake near the Willamette Pass. It was winter and snowy—cold,
but absolutely gorgeous. If you’re at all interested in unique outdoor
maternity photographs—or if you just like looking at pretty pictures—you should
definitely check out the images from our first session.
This time, since they’re expecting another baby boy this summer, we decided to contrast our earlier snow session with a shoot on the beach! Totally different feel, but just as pretty. We met at the Heceta Head Lighthouse in Florence, a little over an hour from my Eugene, Oregon photography studio. The Oregon coast is so scenic, and a stunning place to do pictures. It was windy, but a beautiful evening, complete with an amazing sunset.
I love the look of outdoor maternity photography, and
always enjoy finding new locations or spending time in old favorites. The coast
is one of my favorite places to be! There’s something so relaxing about it, and
I could watch the waves forever. I also like the clean, crisp lines of studio
maternity photos, and sometimes that can be more convenient for moms and families.
It’s totally up to the expectant mama to choose what she likes best and feels
comfortable with. Part of my job as a maternity photographer is to make
sure your session is a great experience that is tailored especially for you.
Colby and Knox joined in for some of our pictures so we
could record the whole family as they get ready to welcome baby number two.
What a sweet family—and Knox is such a cutie! I did his newborn and one-year
sessions, and I can’t believe how much he’s changed already! One thing hasn’t
changed though: he has always been a happy, smiley little guy, and he is still
so fun and good-natured. He had a great time playing in the sand while his mom
and I were busy with the camera.
Brittanie was a great sport for me, climbing over rocks and
around caves in her flowing maternity gown. I even made her get all wet and
sandy kneeling at the edge of the surf. Luckily she has an adventurous spirit
and didn’t seem to mind—and the resulting photos were totally worth it! I have
loved being the Eugene, Oregon photographer for this family over the
last couple of years, and I’m so excited to meet the new little guy!
