Loren brought her adorable new daughter Alivia into the
studio about a month ago for a newborn photography session. Miss Alivia is
so cute! She has such round cheeks and the sweetest little dimpled chin.
Mom mostly wanted photos of the new baby, but she said she’d
also like some shots of the little one with her big brother, who came to the
studio with mom and sis. My full newborn photography sessions include
parent and sibling shots, if desired, so I was easily able to work those
pictures in. Big brother Landon is quite the cutie himself. He’s still a big
young to hold his baby sister without an adult helping him, but there are still
lots of options for posing siblings and newborns in a situation like this. I’ve
learned how to be flexible and still end up with beautiful pictures.
Although we didn’t do it in this session, I’ll sometimes use
the bed in my studio so siblings can lie down behind or next to the baby without
holding them. Sitting on a comfy rug near their new sibling, like Landon did,
is another pose that works well. If the older kiddo just really isn’t wanting
to cooperate in any joint shots with this tiny intruder who’s suddenly appeared
in their lives, we can always fall back on composite images.
It’s amazing what you can do in the editing process! Digital
technology combined with years of practice as a newborn photographer
allow me to combine images seamlessly. For composite shots with a newborn and
sibling, I’ll take separate pictures of baby and big brother or sister by themselves
using exactly the same backdrop and lighting. Later, when I’m at the computer, I
can overlay the two shots and blend them into one. You’ll never be able to tell
the difference, I promise!
We chose purple and gray for Alivia’s newborn photography
session. She was so darned cute she would have looked great in any colors we
chose—and the sky is the limit when it comes to choosing a color scheme for
your little one’s photos. I have tons of selections in my Eugene, Oregon
photography studio—the hardest part for most people is narrowing it down. I’m
happy to provide recommendations if you have trouble deciding. Whatever look
you’re going for, I’m sure we can make it happen!
Like many of my clients, Alivia’s family are Duck fans, so
we had to get a shot in sports regalia. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer,
I make sure to keep some baby-sized outfits in Ducks colors for the little future
athletes that come through my door! They’re a very popular option and there’s
something irresistible about a baby in a tiny jersey.
