Eugene, Oregon family photographer: Outdoor session at Dorris Ranch

Mason, Amanda, Nolan, and Cora met me at Dorris Ranch on a beautiful evening in late August for a family photography session. Amanda was referred to me by some previous clients of mine on a Eugene Facebook group and I’m so glad she reached out! Her family is absolutely adorable and I loved getting to know them.

If you live in the Eugene/Springfield area you know that we had a very wet September, but the sun was still going strong at the time we held this family photo session. It was a great evening, the perfect temperature, with light pouring through the trees around the ranch. Dorris Ranch is one of my favorite locations for outdoor shoots. The filbert (hazelnut) orchards are always such a pretty spot for pictures, plus there are several rustic-looking fences and buildings that make an ideal backdrop for outdoor portrait photography. I’ve used Dorris Ranch for family, maternity, and even milestone shoots. If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend you check it out!

I always like to get some natural, less posed shots with families during outdoor shoots. I have a patchwork blanket at my Eugene, Oregon photography studio that I usually bring along when I’m doing an outdoor session with young children. It’s perfect for sitting on, or for getting fun pictures like mom and dad holding the blanket stretched out high over the kiddos’ heads.

Outdoor photos are also a lot of fun for kids. Amanda and Mason’s little ones, Nolan and Cora, were the cutest kiddos ever! It was so fun to watch them together. As a family photographer I love to capture sibling interactions, and these two gave me a ton of super cute photo opps. They obviously get along great with each other, and both of them did such a great job for me during this family photography session.

It was such a pleasure to spend the evening with Amanda and her beautiful family! Fingers crossed that I’ll get to work them again—I would love it!

Eugene, Oregon newborn photographer: Welcome Emmett!

This little guy was so precious! Sarah and Brian brought in their new cutie Emmett for newborn photos back in November. (I’m actually having a hard time believing we’re already through the first quarter of 2022! Is that just me?) He was a total sweetheart! Parents are always welcome to bring special items from home. In this case, mom and dad brought a colorful quilt that a family member had made. Even though our session took place in the fall, the quilt’s bright colors reminded me of spring! It also gave us a beautiful splash of color, since most of our photos were with all-white backgrounds. A blue beanbag and heart from my studio collection of props matched the quilt perfectly. Since this newborn photography session took place just a month before Christmas, mom and dad requested a holiday setup. This is always a fun option if your session takes place shortly before a major holiday like Christmas or Easter. It’s generally easy to work in just a single holiday-themed setup, and these k...

Sweet little Bennett is so lucky to have such a great family.  His big brother is absolutely adorable and his parents are just so nice :)  I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them!  Bennett is an alert little guy!  He wants to be awake and look at my light and take everything in around him :)  Reminds me of my older daughter.  Enjoy!
