Eugene, Oregon newborn photographer: Welcome Thomas!

Shannon made the drive over the pass from Redmond (about two and a half hours from my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon) to do a newborn photography session for her adorable son Thomas. The pass isn’t always the smoothest driving, but with the beautiful weather we’ve been having it was nice and clear for her trip. Shannon also has family here in town, so she was able to drive over the day before and spend the night with them before bringing the little guy into the studio the next day.

Thomas was such a cutie! He has awesome hair, which I had fun coaxing into a wave at the front for some of our shots. His round cheeks and perfect little lips were the best. He was a great little sleeper for me, which was especially nice since this was a mini session. My mini newborn photography sessions are one hour long, as opposed to the three hours I set aside for a full session. The shorter session time means there’s a bit less wiggle room if baby is fussy or hungry—although we still manage to work around it. As a newborn photographer with several years’ experience under my belt, I’ve learned lots of tricks and I rarely have to reschedule a session because baby is too fussy to get the shots we want. Thomas was an easy baby though, and slept the whole time.

We decided on a natural, minimalistic look for most of Thomas’s newborn photos. A textured white background was clean and simple, and we did mostly naked baby or swaddle shots, with just a touch of color incorporated into a few of them. Of course, since we did these photos about three weeks before Halloween, we thought a couple of seasonal pictures would be fun too. It isn’t everybody who can look that cute in a pumpkin hat, but Thomas definitely has what it takes!

I’m so glad Shannon was up for making the drive to Eugene. Given the distance she had to travel, I feel especially honored that she chose me to be the newborn photographer for her new little one. Thomas was as good as gold and we created a beautiful collection of photos their family can look back on to remember this special time. Congratulations, Shannon! I loved meeting you and your precious (and oh-so-handsome) little man!

Eugene, Oregon newborn photographer: Welcome Emmett!

This little guy was so precious! Sarah and Brian brought in their new cutie Emmett for newborn photos back in November. (I’m actually having a hard time believing we’re already through the first quarter of 2022! Is that just me?) He was a total sweetheart! Parents are always welcome to bring special items from home. In this case, mom and dad brought a colorful quilt that a family member had made. Even though our session took place in the fall, the quilt’s bright colors reminded me of spring! It also gave us a beautiful splash of color, since most of our photos were with all-white backgrounds. A blue beanbag and heart from my studio collection of props matched the quilt perfectly. Since this newborn photography session took place just a month before Christmas, mom and dad requested a holiday setup. This is always a fun option if your session takes place shortly before a major holiday like Christmas or Easter. It’s generally easy to work in just a single holiday-themed setup, and these k...
