When Andrew and Torie contacted me about doing a maternity
photography session, I was so excited! I did their engagement photos about
seven years ago, so it was such wonderful news when I heard that they were expecting.
They were one of my very first clients after I started my photography business.
What a pleasure to see them again for such a happy occasion.
Torie and Andrew decided on the studio option for their
maternity pictures. I offer both outdoor and studio venues for these types of
sessions, and sometimes it’s hard to choose between them because both types of
locale provide such beautiful photo opps.
A favorite when doing studio maternity photography is
the backlit silhouette shots. The stark black and white contrast and sharp
silhouette is something you can really only get in the studio, where I have full
control of the lighting. This allows me to completely to essentially eliminate
the background and focus attention on the subject one hundred percent. While
silhouettes can work for other types of sessions, they are a great choice in maternity
pictures, because they allow you to show off that beautiful baby bump so
perfectly.
Lace gowns are a popular choice for silhouette photos. The complex
pattern of the lace adds elegance and depth to silhouettes. I keep several
styles of maternity gowns in my Eugene, Oregon photography studio so
that expectant mothers have plenty to choose from. Of course, mamas-to-be are
always welcome to bring their own gown as well. Torie brought the purple dress
you see in our couples photo, and I absolutely loved it! Not everyone looks
good in purple, but Torie’s skin tone and beautiful dark hair are ideal for
jewel tones like this.
I loved welcoming this couple to my studio! A lot has
changed over the years since I first started my business. For one thing, I didn’t
have my own studio. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer, I love having my
own space that I’ve designed to give my clients a comfortable session and
beautiful finished products. Some things haven’t changed though. I am still as
passionate about photography as I was at the beginning, I still love capturing
memories for my clients, and I still feel so blessed that my passion and my business
are one and the same.
I’m so excited for Torie and Andrew, and can’t wait to meet
the little one!
