This little cutie is my cousin, and I was so excited to see
her again for her one-year mini baby photography session! If you ask me,
there’s nothing better than the combination of family and photos. Hope you
enjoy the pics!
My photography studio is located in Eugene, Oregon, but we
decided to do these baby photos nearer to where Braeya and her family live. I
was already traveling up there for another cousin’s wedding (November and
December were very busy months both personally and professionally—but a ton of
fun!) so the timing was perfect.
We did this baby photography session in November, so
I was a little worried about weather. The likelihood of it raining was very
high, so I recommended that Braeya’s mom, Sara, find somewhere we could meet
that had a gazebo or some kind of cover. Better safe than sorry! We also had to
do this session at ten o’clock am, which isn’t ideal for outdoor shooting, so I
was worried that if it wasn’t raining the light would be really harsh. I usually
do my outdoor photography sessions near sunrise or sunset—the golden hour. As
it turned out, we got incredibly lucky with the weather!
Sara selected Happy Valley Park, which had a covered picnic
area where we could take shelter in case it rained, but when we met for our
session it was cloudy but not raining. No rain, no harsh sunlight—perfect!
There was a playground at the park, so we let our girls play for a while after
the shoot was over. The rain was nice enough to hold off the whole time we were
there—and totally poured only after we were done. Phew!
Cake smashes are a really popular option for milestone baby
photography sessions, and we did attempt one for Braeya this time around,
but she was not interested in it at all. Mom ended up choosing mostly non-cake
photos, since she was happier without the cake! Every kiddo is different, and you
never know how a baby will react to a cake smash until you try it!
Braeya was so cute and gave me some great expressions. Mom
had managed to find an outfit that was both cute and warm, so Miss Braeya was
happy and comfortable throughout our session. And of course, she and my girls
had a great time playing together afterward. I’m so glad the timing worked out and
the weather cooperated so that I could be her baby photographer for the
big one-year mark!
