It’s certainly cold outside, but that’s the perfect weather
for a snow sports themed baby photography session in the warmth of my
studio. Shirree brought adorable Graham in a for a mini “sitter” session before
Christmas. He did such a great job and I love the way our pictures turned out!
Many parents like to do the traditional milestone sessions every
3 months during the first year of life, or at the newborn, six-month, and
one-year marks. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that too. But I also love
doing just general sitter sessions, since all babies are different and they
follow their own schedules when it comes to developmental milestones like sitting
up by themselves. Sometimes they aren’t quite ready at six months, but by seven
or eight months they’ve totally mastered this cool new skill. And there’s so
much more variety we can do with poses once baby is able to sit. Eight months
is a great age and Graham rocked it!
Graham has a cranial band helmet that a family friend
painted to look like a snowboarding helmet. How cool is that? A lot of babies
are born with slightly misshapen heads, or develop this condition shortly after
birth, since their heads are so soft and malleable. In most cases it’s slight
and corrects itself over time, but sometimes it’s more severe and a cranial
band helmet like Graham’s will be recommended. This is a great, non-invasive
way to redirect the head shape naturally as baby grows. They come in all kinds
of fun colors, but I love how Graham’s is completely personalized.
Mom wanted to match the theme of this baby and child
photography session to the helmet, so I set up a wintery backdrop and we
used my sled props for Graham to sit on. We were also able to catch a few
photos without the helmet to show more of his face, which was great. This
little guy is too cute—with or without headgear.
It was so fun to have this little guy in my Eugene,
Oregon photography studio again. I photographed him as a newborn (take a
look at his newborn photos here if you missed them), and I always love when my
tiny clients come back to see me as they grow. It’s one of the many joys I
experience as a baby and child photographer.
