Eugene, Oregon family photographer: Fall Family Photos with Natalie, Matt, Lorelei, and Rosalie

I did this family photography session in mid-November—which feels so long ago! We had the most beautiful fall last year, with warm sunny days lasting all the way through October, and we were only just starting to think about winter when we took these photos. Now it feels like winter has lasted forever and I’m so ready for spring! I thought it was here a couple of weeks ago, but the weather has turned cold and gray again. Oh, well. Hopefully soon!

Natalie reached out for fall family photos before the holiday season. She wanted lots of fall colors and leaves. Even with the long dry autumn we’d been enjoying, we knew weather could be an issue at this time of year, but we got lucky. Although the clouds gathered, the rain held off until after the end of our session.

I suggested Armitage Park as our photoshoot location. Armitage is one of my go-to places for fall leaves, since they tend not to clean them up quite as quickly as at other parks. No complaints here! We were able to get those fading autumn colors, and there was even enough on the ground for a fun fall leaf fight—which the girls absolutely loved!

Lorelei and Rosalie are a pair of cuties, and they had so much fun being outside and playing in the leaves. As a family photographer, I like my sessions—especially the outdoor ones—to be as enjoyable and natural as possible. It’s a great opportunity to capture your family in a fun and relaxed way. Kids in particular don’t always like being posed, and I’ve found that it can often be avoided, or at least made to feel less strange. Being told to throw leaves in the air on the count of three feels more like a game than posing for pictures! I frequently get great shots just by letting kids do their thing and then following them around with my camera to catch all the best moments.

It was great to meet Natalie, Matt, and their girls. I’m so glad the weather cooperated and that we were able to find the perfect leafy location to get exactly the look Natalie was hoping for. Fall sessions are super popular, so if you’re wanting to book a fall family session for later this year, now is the time to do it!

Eugene, Oregon newborn photographer: Welcome Emmett!

This little guy was so precious! Sarah and Brian brought in their new cutie Emmett for newborn photos back in November. (I’m actually having a hard time believing we’re already through the first quarter of 2022! Is that just me?) He was a total sweetheart! Parents are always welcome to bring special items from home. In this case, mom and dad brought a colorful quilt that a family member had made. Even though our session took place in the fall, the quilt’s bright colors reminded me of spring! It also gave us a beautiful splash of color, since most of our photos were with all-white backgrounds. A blue beanbag and heart from my studio collection of props matched the quilt perfectly. Since this newborn photography session took place just a month before Christmas, mom and dad requested a holiday setup. This is always a fun option if your session takes place shortly before a major holiday like Christmas or Easter. It’s generally easy to work in just a single holiday-themed setup, and these k...
