How is everyone adjusting to Phase 2? Honestly, it doesn’t
feel a whole lot different to me, but it’s nice to know we’re making progress
and are hopefully on the road to some level of normalcy. I am seeing clients
again, which is awesome! It was a hard few weeks not being able to have all
those beautiful babies and families in my studio. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer,
capturing memories is my passion, and it was sad not to be able to do photo
sessions, so I’m really glad to be back at it.
This particular session was done back in December, just five
days before Christmas. Lauren and Charles brought in their adorable little guy
Sam for a newborn photography session. Normally I photograph newborns
when they’re between 1-2 weeks old, but I’d never turn a family away just
because their little one was outside the ideal age range. Sam was almost a
month old when I saw him for his baby pictures, and you can see that we had an
amazing session!
If you’re worried that you won’t be able to get your baby in
to the studio 1-2 weeks after birth, don’t stress. That preferred age for newborn
photography is just a guideline—babies this young tend to be sleepy, which
makes for an easier session, and they’re still incredibly flexible and curly,
so we can get those iconic newborn poses. But photos are totally possible with
older newborns. Sometimes they’re awake more and maybe don’t want to curl up
into those poses quite as much as younger newborns, but Sam is proof that the
photos you get are just as beautiful. The important thing is recording that
magical stage of new babyhood and having professional, polished photos of your sweet
infant.
We got a couple of awake photos with Sam, but for the most
part he just slept and let me do my thing. He was a very easy little guy to
work with. I love how the blue we chose for the background matched those baby
blue eyes perfectly! Is there anything prettier than baby eyes?
A favorite prop for little boys is my wooden airplane. It’s
just the right size for a sleepy newborn shot—and it still works as a prop for
not-so-sleepy toddler pictures. Sam looked so cute snoozing away on that little
airplane. I’m sure he’s off to great adventures!
