This was my last session of August—and what a great way to finish off the month! Mr. Dawson was such a cutie pie. The whole family was able to join us for this newborn photography session, which was even better.
I usually like to get newborns into my Eugene, Oregon photography studio within a couple of weeks after birth, but that doesn’t always happen. Welcoming a new baby is a busy time (as all new parents can attest) and sometimes things have to be rearranged or pushed back despite your best efforts. Dawson was about five weeks old by the time the family was able to make it in for his newborn photos, so I wasn’t sure how our session would go. Photographing older newborns is totally doable, but it can sometimes be a bit more challenging, since older babies tend to be more wakeful and less cooperative about posing for the camera. Dawson did great though! He was actually a really good little sleeper, and on those occasions when he did wake up he was pretty calm, so we were able to carry on with the session pretty smoothly.
Parents Whitney and Stormy wanted a very neutral color scheme for their new little fella, so we stayed with grays, whites, and tans. Although bright colors can be fun in newborn photography, they’re not necessary—you can get great baby pictures with any color scheme and style you like. Neutral colors and black and white pictures are a great choice for certain styles, can give more of a timeless look, and can be more flexible to go with several different types of home décor. (Thinking about how you’re going to use your baby pictures can be helpful as you decide on color and style. You might want a different feel for a photo album than you do for announcements, for example; and a canvas print that will be displayed in your living room might need a different color scheme than one that’s going to be hung in the nursery.)
Dawson was so good for me, and so adorable! His parents and big brother Declan are totally smitten with him. It was so fun to have them all in the studio and to capture this special time for them. Congratulations to a beautiful family!
Interested in a newborn photography session? I hope you’ll contact me! I’m a Eugene, Oregon photographer who specializes in newborn portraits, as well as maternity, family, and baby and child sessions. I love recording these precious memories for families.
I recommend that you book your newborn session as far in advance
as possible. However, as you can see, you can still get beautiful newborn
pictures even if your baby is a bit older. Some poses (such as the popular
froggy pose) may not be feasible, since babies become less flexible as they
grow, but we can still get a variety of sweet and adorable shots, so please
feel free to get in touch so we can discuss the possibilities!
