I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday so far and that you’re all getting ready for a great new year! What a strange year this has been. I’m sure a lot of you are like me and will be more than happy to see the back of 2020, but it’s important to remember that plenty of good things have happened too—not least of which are our precious 2020 babies. My job as a newborn photographer reminds me that no matter what happens in the world, the miracle of life keeps happening—and it is beautiful every time!
This sweet little girl is Lilith. Her mom brought her to my Eugene, Oregon photography studio back in October for baby pictures. I had photographed her big sister Dahlia as a newborn (about two and a half years ago now!) and was so excited to meet the new addition to their family.
Dahlia was a real beauty as a baby, and Lilith is every bit
as adorable! I remember being impressed with Mom’s taste and sense of style
during Dahlia’s session—she chose such pretty dark colors—and I love the results
from this newborn photography session just as much. The deep purple and
navy Mom picked out were absolutely gorgeous. The dark colors were reminiscent
of big sister’s session, but instead of plum (which gave Dahlia’s session a
very royal look), these celestial colors that Mom chose for Lilith give us the
same depth and elegance with more of a night sky look. So pretty!
We also did a little splash of pink with our carriage setup. We used a similar setup with Dahlia, so that was a fun throwback! Some parents like to do something totally different with each new baby’s photo session, and others like to use similar setups or colors for cohesion. Both methods are great! When picking out colors and themes, it’s always a good idea to think about how you want to use your finished photographs. Will they be collected in a special album? Displayed as artwork in the home? Given as gifts? Knowing how you want to display your photos is helpful as you design and customize your session.
Another throwback shot that echoed big sister’s newborn
photography session was the closeup on Lilith’s sweet baby lips. Aren’t
they perfect?
Lilith was a great little sleeper for me and did a wonderful
job during this mini session. It was so fun to meet her and to see Mom again.
I hope you all have a wonderful start to your new year! See
you in 2021!
