This handsome little man is Ursa, and we got some great
pictures with him that I’m very excited to show you!
Moms Liz and Thea brought their new little guy in to my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon in
early October for a newborn photography
session. They were a last-minute booking, so I’m really glad I was able to fit
them in, even though October was a pretty full month for me.
Ursa was just over the two-week-old recommendation I usually
give parents, so I wasn’t quite sure how he would do. It’s generally best to
get babies in for their photo shoots early so that their skin hasn’t developed
any eczema or rough patches (very common among little ones), and also so that
they’re still in the extra sleepy baby stage and therefore more likely to be
well-behaved for the camera. Ursa did great though. His parents followed the
prep guide well and Ursa slept peacefully almost the entire way through the
session. He woke up for parent shots, but was totally calm and not at all put
out by having his picture taken. We got some beautiful pictures, and then, as
if he’d woken up specifically so we could see his gorgeous eyes while his moms
were holding him, he promptly fell asleep again for the remainder of our time
together.
Thea and Liz decided on teal as the main color for Ursa’s newborn photography session. It’s a
lovely, vivid color that paired really well with the more sedate grays and
browns we used with it. I also think it went great with his hair, which has a
light reddish tinge to it. I’m wondering if it will darken up as he gets older,
or if the red will become more prominent. Doesn’t really matter, because he’s
as cute as a button no matter what color his hair is!
I love that Ursa has a very masculine little face. A lot of
times with young infants it’s hard to tell gender, but Ursa definitely looks
like a boy, and somehow that makes him even more adorable! Isn’t he a
sweetheart?
Ursa’s name means “little bear.” I don’t know if that’s part
of what influenced his moms to use a woodland setting and a bear hat for one of
his pictures, but it’s very appropriate. Actually, now that I think about it,
so is the moon and stars prop we used for another photo in the collage: Ursa
Major and Ursa Minor are the constellations also known as the Big and Little
Dippers!
I’m so glad I was able to fit Ursa and his parents in for a newborn photography session during a
busy time at the studio. It was a pleasure to meet them and to share Liz and
Thea’s excitement over their new baby boy. They are clearly in love with him,
and I don’t blame them one bit! Ursa is such a good baby, so sweet and
adorable, and he and his moms take some great pictures together!
