This was a really fun family
photography session! It was a little different in that it wasn’t a single
nuclear family—we had three generations in the studio all together. It made for
a very full studio, a super fun range of ages and stages in life, and a
wonderful atmosphere.
Laura and her husband Scott contacted me a while ago wanting
to update their family pictures—something they had been wanting to do for a
while but hadn’t found time for since their children were toddler-aged! Now
those same children are in their twenties and thirties, and there are even a
couple of grandchildren in the mix. It’s amazing how time flies! We just get
busy with life and all its ups and downs, and sometimes we forget to take time
to record those moments. I’m so glad Laura and Scott decided not to let any
more time go by before they got some professional
family photos. They turned out great, and it just goes to show you that it’s
never too late to update those family pictures!
Laura and Scott’s three children are Shane, Carianne, and
Cassy. Carianne is married to a great man—Corbin—and they have two wonderful
boys of their own: Oliver and Ryder. I actually know Carianne and Corbin
through my work as a Eugene, Oregon
photographer and have done several sessions for them over the last few
years: Oliver’s newborn pictures, the maternity and newborn pictures for Ryder,
and a family session with the whole group last spring. Since I know them from
these previous sessions, it was great to see them again in the context of their
extended family, and it was a pleasure to meet and work with such fun and
friendly people.
We had a pretty short window to do these pictures, since
Cassy, who lives in New York, was only in town for Christmas break, but I’m
glad we found a time that worked for all of us, and that Laura, Scott, and
their kids made a family photography
session a priority during this visit.
Everybody was great about being color-coordinated for this
session. With denim, gray, white, and brown we probably could have done any
kind of background and prop colors we wanted and made it work, but we decided
to stay with a neutral color scheme that reflected rather than contrasted with
the clothing. The result was a very open, light, and clean feeling that I love.
The boys, Oliver and Ryder, were super good for me. They
were clearly excited to have their grandparents and aunt and uncle with them—and
of course, they’re old pros at the whole photography thing. 😊
I loved having this group in my photography
studio in Eugene, Oregon. I’ve done lots of family sessions before, and
they’re always great, but there’s something special about a multi-generational session.
I’m so glad Laura and Scott asked me to be their family photographer—I had a blast doing their photographs, and I
hope they had a wonderful time too!
