Sweet Taya was my last session of 2017 and it was a great
one! I did a mini newborn photography
session with her just a couple of days before New Year’s and she was an
absolute dream for me. I schedule up to an hour for these types of sessions,
but Taya was such a well-behaved baby that we were totally done in less than
half an hour. Not only that, but she had as many pictures in her gallery as if
we’d done a full session. She’s just that good! I don’t think I could have
gotten a bad shot of her if I’d tried.
Taya’s aunt, Alia, has brought her three daughters to me for
photography sessions, so although this was my first time meeting Taya and her
immediate family, I still felt like I had a connection. It was fun to meet the
new baby cousin of some of the other little girls I’ve photographed in the past.
We used a blush pink as our main color during this newborn photography session—and it’s
deep enough that it almost has a hint of purple in it. Such a pretty color for
a baby girl! We offset that main color with white and cream, and even a tiny
little splash of mint in a couple of the photos, and it turned out really beautifully.
Of course, Taya obviously had quite a bit to do with how
well the shots turned out! She is such a cute little angel, with amazing skin,
velvety soft hair, and the perfect amount of chunky baby fat. Her plump round
cheeks photographed great, and she was a wonderful sleeper! I was very
impressed and couldn’t help thinking how lucky mom and dad were to have such a
contented baby.
We played around with lots of headbands—all of which Taya
looks so sweet in—and really didn’t do much in the way of props, since this was
a mini session. The result is very simple and straightforward, which I like a
lot. It’s fun to use props, especially with newborn photography sessions because babies just look so darned
cute in those little prams and cradles, but they’re certainly not necessary to
get beautiful and interesting pictures. Although, we did manage to infuse quite
a feeling of variety into the baby photo collage by using backgrounds with
several different textures, and including the closeups of Taya’s perfect little
fingers and toes.
I feel so lucky that I got to end my year as a Eugene, Oregon photographer with a fantastic
session like this. Taya was such a cherub in both appearance and behavior that
it really was a great note to finish up on! I’ve had fun looking back over
previous photos and remembering all the great people and adorable little ones I’ve
had the pleasure of meeting and photographing over the past year. 2017 has been
wonderful, and 2018 is already shaping up to be just as amazing. I’m excited to
see what it holds!
