Betty Lou, Shawn, and big sister Josie brought their new
twins to my photography studio in
Eugene, Oregon last month for a twin
newborn photography session! Kellyn (a little boy) and Quinn (a little
girl) were so good for me and my assistant, Kim. They were amazing little
sleepers and both slept almost the entire way through the session, with only
one short break for eating.
I’ve been looking forward to having these two in
the studio for months now. Doing Betty Lou’s maternity photographs and a Fresh48 session at the hospital shortly after the twins were born just made me
anticipate this newborn session even more, so I’m really glad it went so well.
Kellyn and Quinn are so cute, and I loved all the photographs we got of them.
Betty Lou really wanted gray, aqua, and coral for our color
scheme, to match the twins’ nursery, so those are the main colors we went with.
It must be a challenge designing a colorful nursery for a boy and a girl at the same time, but I think
Betty did a great job. These colors are beautiful together. For several of the
pictures we used aqua for Kellyn and coral for Quinn. It’s easy to tell who is
who, but the colors make it even easier! I like that the aqua and coral give a
nod to the traditional blue for boys and pink for girls, but that they’re a
touch different, and not so strong that the color scheme looks either too
masculine or feminine.
As a newborn
photographer I always have plenty of props in my studio, and we used a few
for this session, but we mostly used the props that Shawn and Betty Lou brought
with them. Shawn is a police officer, so we incorporated his uniform, duty
belt, and hat into some of our photographs, and he also wore his uniform for
part of our session. Betty Lou is a firefighter, so we also included her boots
and helmets. They are such great people, serving their community and keeping
everyone safe. I admire them and am so grateful for their service! Josie,
Kellyn, and Quinn are lucky to have such amazing parents.
Josie was adorable with her new baby brother and sister. She
was really gentle with them and so good about posing for pictures with her
family. I think little Quinn is going to look a lot like her.
When I blogged about their Fresh 48 session I think I
mentioned that Kellyn was quite a bit bigger than Quinn. (A little greedy about
food before he was born!) Quinn has done a great job catching up over the last
few weeks, but she’s still got a little ways to go. Even my scale prop can tell
the difference!
I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve spent with this family, and
this twin newborn photography
session was wonderful. I’m so lucky to be a Eugene, Oregon photographer and get to spend time with incredible
people like this!
