Amanda brought her sons, Gavin, Karson, and Brody in to my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
for a sibling session last month. She wanted to get photos of all three of them
now that her youngest, Brody, has arrived and completed their family. What
sweet boys! I really enjoyed working with them and they were great for me.
Little Brody was about six weeks old at the time of this baby and child photography session,
which is why he’s wide awake in all our pictures. That’s part of why I usually
have people bring in their babies for newborn sessions during the first two
weeks of life. They still tend to be really good sleepers at that point and
consequently very easy to work with since they don’t really care what you’re
doing and are generally content to snooze. The other reason I like to do
newborn sessions early is because babies grow and develop so fast. Even just a
couple of weeks beyond that ideal one or two week point makes such a difference
in their size and the amount they like to wriggle and squirm! We ended up
making it work with Brody though—he was a good sport! Even though he wasn’t
interested in sleeping, I was still able to wrap him in a swaddling blanket,
and even managed to fit him into a newborn prop—although he gave me a bit of a
look when I did it, like, “Don’t you know I’m too old for this?”
Fortunately for me Brody is a very good baby, and his big
brothers are wonderful with him. His oldest brother, Gavin, in particular has a
special touch with Brody that calms him right down. Mom is sure lucky to have
such a talented baby whisperer to help her out, and he was a great assistant
for me too!
It was fun to get to know the boys’ personalities a bit as
we worked. As a baby and child
photographer I usually only have about an hour to get acquainted with the
kids I work with, but a lot of times their characters just shine right through.
Gavin was definitely the responsible big brother, and Karson had a huge smile
and loved to make people laugh. They both got along so well and clearly have a
great relationship that was a treat to see. As a Eugene, Oregon photographer who sees lots of families (not to
mention being a mother of two) I know that siblings don’t always enjoy being
together, so I love seeing close sibling relationships like this. And Gavin and
Karson are obviously on the same page as far as Brody is concerned: They are completely
in love with their new little brother.
It was a pleasure to have this family in my studio. They
were a delight to be with, and such a good-looking group! I think these boys
are going to continue to be best of friends as they grow up, and I wish them an
absolutely amazing time together!
