Skylar brought in her adorable son, Duke, for his newborn photography session last month.
I posted pictures of Skylar’s maternity session on the blog recently, and you
may remember me mentioning in that post that Duke decided to surprise us all
and come early—just a little over a week after we had gotten his mama’s
pictures done! Despite the fact that he decided to arrive about a month ahead
of schedule, he didn’t look like a preemie at all and was an average size for a
newborn. I guess he just knew he was ready! We got some great pictures of this
handsome little man and I hope you enjoy them!
We did a combination of blue, black, gray, and cream for
Duke’s session—actually a very similar color scheme to Skylar’s maternity
pictures, although we used more of a navy than a jewel blue to make it work for
a little guy. Way to stay cohesive, right? It looks like Duke has inherited his
mom’s lovely golden skin tone and fair hair: he looked so darned cute in all of
our photos, and I thought the colors worked perfectly for him. He has the
cutest lips and nose too!
Unfortunately Duke’s daddy, Malcolm, wasn’t able to get out
of work to come to the newborn
photography session, which was a disappointment, but we got some beautiful
pictures with mom for him to enjoy in the future, and of course lots and lots
of individual shots of the star of our show! Duke was a good little snoozer for
me and although we didn’t do much in the way of props we were able to try
several different outfits and positions while he slept.
We mostly used outfits from my studio, (as a Eugene, Oregon photographer I have
quite the collection going—and growing all the time!), but Skylar also brought
the sweetest little fedora hat for Duke to wear. I absolutely loved it, the
colors were perfect, and the image I used it for turned out to be Skylar’s
favorite shot of the session. She ended up ordering a large canvas print of it
because she loved it so much. I’ve got to admit, Duke does look pretty classy
in a fedora! I think grownup touches like hats and ties for boys or heels and
pearls for girls are so fun to use in newborn
photography. Just adds a bit of an unexpected twist.
It was great to see Skylar again and to meet her sweet
little boy. I was so excited when Skylar asked me to be her maternity
photographer, and even more thrilled (if possible) when she asked me to be the newborn photographer for the little
fella she and Malcolm were expecting. I’m kind of glad Duke arrived early so I
didn’t have as long to wait! (Isn’t he considerate?) I’m so happy for this
exciting time in Skylar and Malcolm’s lives, and I know they’re going to be
amazing parents! What a fantastic family!
