I did this maternity
photography session last month with Skylar and Malcolm. They are the most
wonderful couple! We got some lovely photos during our time together and we
just barely squeezed this session in before baby’s arrival. I’m so glad we did!
I first met Skylar after she was recommended to me by
multiple friends for her eyebrow (and more!) waxing and tinting. She also does
amazing eyelash extensions. I have super blonde eyebrows, so can benefit from
the extra definition given by tinting. My friends absolutely raved about her,
and she did not disappoint. She works at Gervais Salon and Day Spa at the 5th
Street Market here in Eugene, and is a true artist with her job. Skylar is also
just an amazing lady: genuinely friendly and with a special gift for making
everyone around her feel welcome and comfortable, like you’re an old friend she’s
happy to see. Since I’ve benefited so much from her services as a beautician, I
was delighted to offer her mine as a Eugene,
Oregon photographer.
At the time of our session (about the middle of June),
Skylar and Malcom were expecting their son, Duke, to arrive over a month later.
But little Duke had other plans. Just nine days after our session he arrived on
the scene, eager to get started and to meet his mom and dad! I’m just glad he
let us get a maternity photography
session in! Because he came ahead of schedule, we had to do some date shuffling
and push our ordering session back until after I’d had him in the studio for
his newborn photos. Skylar has now seen her maternity images and just loves
them.
Skylar had a gorgeous blue dress that she wore, and she also
wanted to try my blue maternity gown for a few of the shots as well. They are
really close in color, so you almost don’t realize she’s wearing two different
dresses unless you’re looking for it, but I love the subtle variation in shade and
the difference in texture. I thought blue was a great choice for her beautiful
blonde hair. It also worked great with the understated yellows, greens, and
browns of our location.
Since the weather was so nice we decided to do this session at
Mount Pisgah. In addition to the popular hike to the top of the hill, the Mount
Pisgah Arboretum offers some beautiful meadows and miles of trails through
river, water garden, and wooded areas. It’s a wonderful place for an outdoor maternity photography (or any other
kind of photography) session, and I really enjoyed spending an evening there
with Skylar and Malcolm.
It was a genuine pleasure to be the maternity photographer for Skylar. I loved being able to interact
with her in a different type of setting, and to meet Malcolm (and their baby
boy just a few weeks later!) You really couldn’t find nicer people anywhere, and
I’m so excited for them as they start their family together!
