Amy, Kyle, and their new son Bennett came to visit me last
month for a newborn photography
session. It was so great to have them in the studio! This family has a special
place in my heart and I was so happy to be able to photograph their beautiful
rainbow baby.
If you’re not familiar with the term, a rainbow baby is a
little one born after the miscarriage, stillbirth, or loss in infancy of an
older sibling. While every new baby is precious, the arrival of a rainbow baby
is often particularly emotional and tender. As a loss mom myself, I completely
understand those emotions and was honored to be the newborn photographer for Bennett, knowing the difficult time his
mom and dad had already been through. Rainbow babies are such a miracle, and I
was so happy to celebrate that miracle with Kyle and Amy! Little ones like
Bennett bring hope and healing, and looking at them makes it impossible to take
anything in life for granted.
Bennett was an angel and did such an amazing job for me. He
was a very sleepy little guy and just perfect in every way, from his fuzz of
fair hair right down to his tiny pink toes. It was so cute to watch his little
face while he slept. Most of the time he was very serious and furrowed his brow
just a bit, but every once in a while he would raise his eyebrows, as if
something in his dreams had surprised him. I loved capturing those involuntary
expressions. What a sweetheart!
We went with a very neutral color scheme that turned out
really nice. Blue, gray, cream, and white. Since Bennett was so relaxed we were
able to try a good variety: several different swaddle shots, a few outfits, and
some cute naked baby pictures. He didn’t seem to mind a thing we did, and slept
right through the session without so much as a peep. I focused most of this newborn photography session on Bennett,
but I knew we wanted to get some parent and child shots in there as well. I
love the way the photos of Bennett and his parents turned out. Amy and Kyle are
so thrilled about their new baby!
It was truly a pleasure to have this wonderful family in my Eugene, Oregon photography studio. I
was glad to have the opportunity to reconnect with Kyle and Amy, and so excited
to meet Bennett! The relationships I’m able to forge as a Eugene, Oregon photographer are so special to me. I would still
love my job even if taking pictures was the whole extent of it, but getting to
know my clients, making connections and creating memories with them, getting to
be a small part of their lives—that’s what really makes my work meaningful.
Congratulations to Amy and Kyle on their new baby boy! They have
my best wishes for the future, and I hope the new year brings them much happiness
and many joyful memories!
