I was so happy to see this family again and to finally meet
Amanda’s husband, Jared. Last time Amanda just brought the kids to the studio,
so it was wonderful to have everyone together for this family photography session.
Jared and Amanda recently purchased a new home and were
needing to fill their walls, so it was family photo time! Buying a home is such
a huge, exciting thing, and I’m super happy for them. With three energetic
young boys, having room to roam is an awesome blessing! I was delighted that
Amanda asked me to help them with pictures to decorate their home. We got so many
great photos, and I’m sure that as they display them in their new house it will
start to really feel like their own space!
Although I offer studio sessions for families, outdoor family photography sessions are
also a great choice for couples, maternity, and families with young kids, and they
are very popular. Both studio and outdoor pictures are beautiful in their own
way, so you really can’t go wrong. Since our session was scheduled for May and
so we had a good chance of some nice spring weather, we decided to do this
photo shoot at Dorris Ranch in Eugene’s sister city of Springfield. Dorris
Ranch is one of my favorite locales and I use it often in my work as a Eugene, Oregon photographer. With
meadows, trees, and rustic fences and barn it really has everything a photographer
needs to get a fantastic variety of images. We totally lucked out on the weather
and it was absolutely stunning when we were there. Lots of beautiful
wildflowers, and the fields hadn’t been cut yet, so the grass made the perfect
backdrop for several of our photos. I love the way that long grass catches the
light and moves with the wind. So pretty!
One of the reasons outdoor sessions work so well for
families with kids is that being outside really allows the kiddos to relax and
have fun. Most children are very comfortable being outdoors and are in their
element when they’re…well…in the elements! The boys (Gavin, Karson, and Brody)
clearly enjoyed spending time outside on a beautiful evening, and I love the
natural, laid-back feel of both the session and the resulting photos.
The boys were just as handsome as I remember (what a
good-looking crew, am I right?) and so cute together. It was especially fun to
see how much Brody had grown since I last saw him. He was only six weeks old when
he and his brothers were last in the studio, and he’s gotten so big! Little
ones grow and change so fast. One more reason to squeeze in as many family photography sessions as you possibly
can!
It was great to be the family
photographer for Amanda and Jared and their kiddos. I wish them the best of
luck as they transition to their new home and am sure they will create many
wonderful memories there. Congratulations, you guys!
