Is anyone else reeling at how fast this summer has flown by?
I can’t believe it’s almost September and time to be thinking about backpacks and
books instead of lake days and swimsuits! One thing I can always count on
though, no matter what the season, is a steady flow of adorable newborns and
their families making tracks to my Eugene, Oregon photography studio.
Last month, when summer was still at its height, I welcomed
Erin and Anthony and their two beautiful daughters to the studio for photographs.
They had just been blessed with new baby Rosalee and wanted to do a newborn
photography session to record this exciting time.
Rosalee was a great little sleeper and an absolute dream to
pose. We got to try a ton of different outfits because she was so easygoing. We
went with pinks and florals for a very sweet, girly feel. I also incorporated
some lace and soft textures like feathers, fur, and yarn. I love using texture
to add depth to newborn photos. My garland backdrop with wooden swing is a
popular prop for composite shots and Rosalee looks so cute sleeping on it. I
have tons of props at the studio—if you’re looking for inspiration, feel free
to browse my newborn photo gallery.
Erin and Anthony decided not to do any parent photos, but we
got some great sibling shots with new baby Rosalee and her big sister Ruby.
Ruby is such a doll, with the sweetest smile and such beautiful clear eyes.
These two girls looked adorable together! We did most of our sibling shots on
the bed. This tends to be a great option when I’m photographing new babies with
older brothers and/or sisters. It’s nice and comfy, gives us a relaxed and
casual setting that most kids seem to respond well to, and allows siblings to
cuddle baby without actually picking the little one up.
Another thing I loved about photographing Rosalee was that
she has the most amazing creamy skin. The fact that her skin was so beautiful
made it a cinch to edit these newborn photographs. New babies often have
skin tones with a lot of yellows or reds in them. This is usually caused by common
newborn skin conditions like jaundice or rash. It’s generally nothing to worry
about from a health perspective, but it doesn’t always look pretty in pictures.
As a professional newborn photographer, I use digital editing tools after
a session to even out baby’s skin tone, smooth away imperfections like patches
of flaky or scaly skin, and give the images of your little one the perfect
balance of color. Occasionally though (as in this case) I photograph a baby who
has such gorgeous skin that I barely need to touch it in editing. Such a pretty
girl!
I loved being the Eugene, Oregon photographer for
this sweet family. Both of the girls were so good for me and I love the images
we captured. Congratulations to Erin and Anthony, and best wishes for the
future!
