Hope you’re all staying warm! We’ve had some beautiful afternoons here in Eugene the last little while, but mornings and evenings are getting quite cold. The cold is what makes the color though, and I am loving all the beautiful fall foliage—it has really started coming into its own the last couple of weeks and is so pretty! As beautiful as all those autumn leaves are though, they still can’t compete with this little lady!
Olive and her family (parents DJ and Megan, and older siblings Jacoby and Violet) came to my Eugene, Oregon photography studio near the end of September for newborn pictures. I have been photographing this family since Violet was a newborn, and did maternity pictures for them over the summer as they got ready to welcome Olive. It was really fun to do a maternity session with the whole family, and I felt so lucky that I got to see them all again for this newborn photography session.
I love the name Olive, and it’s extra cute for this little girl because it goes so well with her big sister’s name! When I photographed Violet as a new baby we did lots of purples as a play on her name. I was kind of hoping Mom would want to incorporate some olive green into Olive’s session, similar to what we did for big sister—and she did! Olive is a pretty popular color right now, for both boys and girls, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a really lovely, soothing color, and goes just as well with coral, pink, and peach for girls as it does with navy, tan, and gray for boys.
Of course, variety is the spice of life, so we didn’t confine ourselves exclusively to an olive palette. We also used cream, white, and blush pink—all of which were beautiful!
Just like with Violet, Mom didn’t want anything too
over-the-top girly, so we used little touches like simple flowered headbands
and lacy textures to give us a look that felt feminine but not girly. Love the
way it turned out!
Since we had the whole family there, we made sure that we also got several family shots during this newborn photography session, as well as baby portraits with both parents and siblings. Back in the summer when I did Megan’s maternity session, Jacoby and Violet were so excited about having a new baby sister. Now that she’s here, I think they’re even more excited! They did a great job posing and cuddling with her, and both so smiled so big the whole time! Olive is lucky to have such great siblings to look out for her.
Loved the opportunity to be the newborn photographer for this wonderful family again. I think it’s so great that they were all able to make it to Olive’s session, and love the adorable images we created. Congratulations to this beautiful, growing family, and thank you for letting me be a part of this special time!
