Proud parents Ashley and Andy brought Aiden in to my studio
last month for a newborn photography
session and we had a wonderful time together. They’re so happy to have Aiden,
and it’s easy to see why he’s their pride and joy. I had so much fun
photographing him, and I hope you enjoy the results!
I have been looking forward to having Aiden in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
ever since I did Ashley’s maternity session in early July. If you missed
pictures from that session, be sure to check them out here. We held the
maternity session at Owen Rose Garden right when the flowers were in full
swing, and Ashley’s pictures are just beautiful.
Aiden was every bit as sweet and cute as I had pictured him.
He’s a big boy, and was right around ten pounds at the time of our session. I
just love those chunky little cheeks and sturdy build. Aiden also has amazing
hair, and way more of it than you usually see with newborns. So thick and dark
and soft—I just wanted to keep touching it! I think that thick head of hair and
sturdy build make him look older than a newborn too, but just as adorable! I
loved his full lips too. In fact, I couldn’t resist focusing in on them, as you
can see in the collage. And those gorgeous dark eyes! Oh my goodness. Aiden was
actually a great little sleeper, and very easygoing while I positioned him for
pictures, but he was nice enough to wake up for a few minutes so I could admire
his lovely eyes.
We didn’t use a lot of props in this newborn photography session, relying mostly on Aiden’s native
cuteness to carry the day (which he did exceptionally well!) but Aiden’s daddy
is a pilot, so we had to incorporate my wooden airplane into a few of the
photos. Think he’ll grow up to fly airplanes like his dad?
We chose very masculine colors for Aiden’s session: mostly
blues, grays, and browns, which is always a great color palette for a little
boy. Aiden has such beautiful skin that I think any color we chose would have
worked, but I especially like the darker shades, like this blanket we wrapped
him in, because they highlight his skin and bring out the beautiful browns and
blacks in his hair.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: being a newborn photographer is my absolute
favorite! There’s just something so special about capturing that first stage of
a baby’s life. I love doing maternity, family, and baby and child photography as
well, but there is undeniably a soft spot in my heart for newborn photography. Not hard to see why when you look at this
little guy, right?
I was delighted to see Ashley and Andy again, and even
happier to meet Aiden. He really is a precious boy—and talk about photogenic! I’d
love to see them in the studio again at some point, but whether I do or not I
hope they know they have my best wishes going forward!
