Evelyn’s mama is my daughter’s preschool teacher, so I was
super excited to photograph this sweet baby girl. It’s always extra special
when I get to do a session with people I already have a connection with so it
was a real pleasure to have Evelyn and her mom and dad in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
last month.
The pictures you see here are actually from take two of this
particular newborn photography
session. The first time Evelyn came in she was a bit fussy and didn’t want to
sleep so we decided to try again a few days later. That kind of thing doesn’t
happen too often, but every once in a while a baby will just be having a growth
spurt or an upset tummy and not want to be a model—and they let me know. I call
it my studio, but trust me, I know who the real boss is. The baby is definitely
in charge and lets me know if I’m allowed to photograph them or not---and I’ve
learned better than to argue!
Fortunately on our second attempt Evelyn was feeling much more
cooperative. She was totally content and slept like a champ so I was able to
finish up the session in about half an hour, easy peasy. Such a sweet little
peanut!
Evelyn’s mom requested soft pinks and golds in the color
scheme, both of which we incorporated most noticeably in the picture below,
along with some black and white stripes to add a dramatic flair. I really like
how this photograph turned out. It’s a bit unusual in that it uses a bolder background
than is common for newborn photography,
but I think the pink and turquoise softens it enough that it works really
nicely. Gives it a bit of a fun, modern twist.
Evelyn’s nursery is an airplane theme—a somewhat
unconventional choice for a girl, but I love it! We made sure to include a cute
wooden model airplane in the shoot, and with that pretty pink blanket and
adorable goggles I think it turned out perfect for a little girl with adventure
ahead of her!
We also got some closeup photography of Evelyn’s sweet
little nose and mouth and her perfectly formed baby toes, as you can see in the
top two photographs below. Everything about a new baby is so darned cute, and
I’m glad we got to highlight a couple of those endearing features in Evelyn’s
session.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the photos of this precious little
one. I had a wonderful time working with Evelyn and her parents, and even
though our newborn photography
session had a bit of a rocky start I’m glad we were able to finish it so easily
and smoothly on our second try. This is such a great little family and I loved
the opportunity to be part of their life in this way, as Evelyn’s mom in
particular has definitely been a welcome part of my own family’s life.
