This stunning young lady is Maya, and I can’t wait for all
of you to meet her! She is absolutely beautiful, as you can see, so needless to
say, we got some fantastic photos. I hope you like them as much as I do!
Maya was brought into my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon last month by her parents,
Ariana and Hector. I did Ariana’s maternity session back in August. You can
check out the photos here. Both of Maya’s parents are so good-looking,
and I think Maya inherited every single one of whatever genes code for
gorgeous! I can definitely see a lot of both of them in her.
I loved the deep colors that were chosen for this session. We
used burgundy, maroon, and plum, mixed with some very soft grays and whites to
keep the photos from getting too dark. Although plum isn’t uncommon, burgundy
and maroon are colors that aren’t typically requested for newborn photography sessions. I think the maroon in particular is absolutely
beautiful with Maya’s deep golden complexion and dark hair. (For the
color-curious, maroon is the deep red of the blanket Maya is wrapped in the
picture below, while burgundy is more the color of Maya’s knitted cap in the
collage a little farther down.)
Maya certainly isn’t limited to darker colors though, as
incredible as she looks in them. We used exclusively light colors in a few of
our photographs, including the one below with my moon and stars prop, just to
show you how versatile she is!
Maya’s grandfather (Ariana’s dad) is a fisherman down in
Colombia, which is why we included the boat setup you see in the collage. Maybe
she and grandpa will have some fun times out on the water together when she
gets a little older!
Ariana’s mom traveled to all the way Oregon to see her new
granddaughter, and was also here for the newborn
photography session and ordering session. She is originally from Italy and
doesn’t speak any English, but you don’t always need spoken language to
communicate. It was easy to see that she loved the photos and, more
importantly, is completely in love with little Maya. It’s a shame they don’t
live closer geographically—long distance relationships can be tough on doting
grandparents—but I’m so glad Ariana’s mom was able to make the trip and hold
her new baby granddaughter in her arms. Moments like that are irreplaceable!
It was a pleasure to have this wonderful family in my studio
as they celebrated Maya’s arrival. It was especially fun to have some extended
family there as well. I don’t often get that, and it was touching to see those
three generations together. It’s clear that they all love each other a lot, so
I’m sure they will stay close despite the distance, and I hope they get to
spend lots of time together and create many happy memories. They’re certainly
off to a good start! I wish them all every happiness as they embrace this
joyful change in their lives!
