Now that it’s December ‘tis the season for Christmas-themed family photography sessions! Amber,
Grant, and their daughter Goldie wanted a fun, Christmasy session, so that’s
exactly what we did. I think these photos will make awesome holiday greeting
cards. I know I would love to receive such a lighthearted picture in the mail
to commemorate the season!
I saw this group last summer when I did an outdoor family
session for them to celebrate Goldie’s first birthday. She has already grown up
so much in those few months, and is clearly a toddler now and not a baby
anymore. She is still so cute though. She has the most beautiful bright eyes,
wavy hair, and a great big smile (inherited from her mom, I think) that lights
up the whole room! Such a happy kiddo with a great personality—and it’s clear
where she gets it from. Her parents are amazing, fun people who obviously love
life and being together as a family. It was a pleasure to see this family
interact with each other, and they truly were a joy to work with.
Fun as the great outdoors is, it was way too chilly and damp
to think about an outdoor family
photography session this time around, so we stayed indoors and enjoyed the
decorations of the season without having to deal with the cold. We stayed nice
and toasty while we took photos with wintery backgrounds and props, whether
those took the form of garlands, sleighs, or sparkling gold trees, and then we
threw all thoughts of formality to the winds and decided it was time for a
pajama party. What?! So much fun!
Amber brought coordinated jammies to the studio, so
everybody changed into those—even Tucker, the dog, had a special matching doggy
shirt so he could join his people in the fun. I’m not sure how excited he was
about that, but he was very patient and well-behaved! Such a good boy. It’s
always fun to have pets in the pictures when possible, because pets are so often
such a big part of the family, and usually feature prominently in a child’s
memories of growing up.
It seems like the combination of pajamas and Christmas
brings out the child in all of us, so it was kind of hard to resist jumping on
the bed, but we managed to maintain some semblance of dignity and just stuck to
the business of taking pictures. Mostly. We certainly had a lot of smiles and laughs,
but we did draw the line at starting a pillow fight, sorely as we were tempted.
I’m so glad I was once again able to be the family photographer for Amber, Grant,
and Goldie. It was a blast to have them in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon, and to get ready for
Christmas with such a fun and relaxed session. I hope this family has a
wonderful, memorable holiday season and that the new year holds great things in
store for them!
These pictures are super amazing. We also had hosted a cute DIY pre-Christmas party at one of the rooftop event venues Chicago. We used a lot of glitter for the party décor and it looks amazing. Truly everyone of us enjoyed each and every moment in this bash.
