I welcomed this sweet little girl into my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon
just a few days before Christmas. Little Campbell was a preemie and was already
seven weeks old at the time of this newborn
photography session—even though she wasn’t due until January! She decided
to surprise mom and dad and the doctors by making her grand entrance much
earlier than expected. We’re all delighted that she’s here, although I think
mom and dad especially would have been grateful for a little more warning!
Campbell was tiny when she was born, weighing only a little
over two pounds. She is definitely a strong girl and a fighter. I’m so glad
that despite the rough start of such an early birth she is doing well now. She
has put on weight and was starting to fill out a little by the time we did our
session. She’s certainly not chunky by any stretch of the imagination, but
she’s got the sweet round cheeks and was starting to get some of those tiny
rolls of baby fat we associate with newborns.
This baby girl was such a great poser for me. She was super
sleepy and seemed oblivious as we changed her into different outfits, moved her
into the postures we wanted, and rotated through props. Nothing we did seemed
to bother her in the least—which made everybody happy!
Campbell’s parents, Aubrey and Kyle, wanted pinks and
purples for this session, so that’s mostly what we went with. It’s a great
color scheme for a little girl, and actually works really well for a winter newborn photography session when the
shades are a little more dusky and you can work pretty much any color you want
into cozy warm hats. And we did use lots of hats and headbands!
Since it was so close to Christmas though, we also decided
to get a shot of Campbell in red and white, sleeping peacefully while she waits
for Santa to arrive. I think it’s safe to say she’s on the nice list!
All of the other pictures use primarily blush pink and
lavender to show off this precious little girl’s perfect skin and petite form.
Her delicate pink toes and fingers are the best! Although I’m a Eugene, Oregon photographer who
specializes in photographing newborns, it never gets old, and I am just as
liable to ooh and aah over those sweet baby digits as I was when I started my
business over five years ago.
That’s one of the great benefits of having a job that I
love: It seems to get better and better as I improve my skills, discover new
photography styles, and make connections with so many wonderful people. I’m so
happy that I was able to be the newborn
photographer for Campbell and her family last month and to capture all the
sweet adorableness of her babyhood. She is a treasure and it really was a
delight to work with her and her parents. What a great family!
So so lovely! A wonderful talent that will ensure our memories are as sweet 20 years from now as they are today!
