I had such a fun maternity
photography session earlier this month with Shawna and Eric. What a great
couple! They are expecting their baby girl, Teagan, pretty much any second now,
and are so excited for this chapter of their lives together. I am so excited
for them, and can’t wait to meet their precious little one. She should be in
the studio by mid-May at the very latest for her newborn photos, and I am
counting down the days! It’s pretty obvious from seeing her parents that she is
going to be a real cutie.
Shawna decided to wear my blue maternity gown as well as a
new white lace one I got recently as an addition to my studio wardrobe. A maternity photographer can never have
too many gowns on hand, (although I probably have way too much fun exploring
all the colors and designs and picking out new dresses so my clients always
have a variety to choose from). She looked absolutely stunning in both of them,
and I love the combination of white and jewel blue in our photos. So pretty and
striking! Shawna has a lovely complexion anyway, and when it’s placed against
the pure white of the lace maternity gown it really brings out her skin tone
and she just glows!
Apart from the colors themselves, we also worked some
contrast into this session with light and dark. My time as a Eugene, Oregon photographer has given
me such an appreciation for the power of light and the ability it has to change
the tone and mood of pictures, and this session was almost a textbook exercise in
the use of light. We ran the whole gamut, from stark silhouette shots to a gentle
gray background, and from the cozy feel of dark wood paneling to a white window
backdrop that brilliantly illuminates our beautiful mother-to-be. It was fun to
work with so many gradations, and I love the results.
Eric and Shawna seem absolutely perfect together. We got
some great shots of them both during our maternity
photography session, and they just seem so natural with each other. I love
the picture of them laughing together! I think they’re going to make fantastic
parents. They’re both very laid-back and fun-loving, and if Teagan inherits anything
of their personalities she is going to be such a sweet baby.
It was delightful to have this couple in my photography studio in Eugene, Oregon.
They were both super easy to work with and fun to be around. It was great to
meet them and get to know them just a little in the short space of an hour. I’m
so glad they chose me to be their maternity
photographer, and so happy that I get to be their newborn photographer as
well! Photographing newborns is my absolute favorite, and I can’t wait to give
you all an update and pictures of baby Teagan when she arrives. Be on the
lookout for her blog post in the coming weeks!
