Landon and Garrett brought their new son Grayson in to see
me about a month ago. What a sweetie! I had been looking forward to having this
little one in my Eugene, Oregon
photography studio for a while, but Grayson actually came to the studio a
few weeks before we had originally planned to have our session. Why? Because he
wanted to get the jump on life and decided to come into the world a few weeks
early! It was an unexpected (but, for me, very pleasant) surprise. He’s doing
really well, no complications, and I don’t think anybody minds that such an adorable
little guy decided to give us the pleasure of his company a bit sooner than
expected. He was fantastic for me during his newborn photography session, super easy to work with, and so
content. I hope you enjoy his pictures!
Grayson was a little bit jaundiced, which happens with earlier
babies a lot of the time (their bodies haven’t quite developed the ability to
fully metabolize the bilirubin in their systems) but that doesn’t generally
interfere with a photo session. Thanks to the digital era and computer technology
(the newborn photographer’s friend)
yellow is a fairly easy color to edit out of baby skin, so you can still get
some great pictures that have a very natural tone.
Jaundice also has a reputation for making babies very sleepy,
so they tend to be pretty easy to work with when taking pictures. That was
certainly the case with Grayson! He was one tired boy and slept like a dream
the whole time, making it easy for me to get lots of wonderful shots. He even
let me tuck his little arms behind his head to make it look like he was
chillaxing after a long day. So cute!
We didn’t use a lot of props in this session: mostly just
focused in on baby. (Although we couldn’t resist using my wooden airplane prop.
Babies look so cute on that airplane, and Grayson’s first flight was something
we didn’t want to miss!) We also kept our color scheme pretty subdued, with two
or three lovely shades of blue complemented by some grays, creams, and browns
to even things out. Sticking with one accent color like that gives a really
nice, balanced feel to the resulting photos, and makes it easy to put together
a collage or mix and match pictures for announcements or to decorate the nursery.
Mom and Dad are obviously so excited to have Grayson in their
lives, and I’m so happy for them! They are a really sweet couple and eager to
be great parents to their little boy—an endeavor I’m sure they’ll succeed in.
It’s such a privilege as a Eugene,
Oregon photographer to witness the start of so many families. Parenthood is
one of life’s greatest adventures, and I love being there at the beginning of
that epic journey! Best wishes to Grayson and his parents as they create an
amazing life together!
