Thea came in last month with her parents, Annabelle and
Josh, for a cake smash mini photography
session. It’s been a few months since I last saw Thea—aside from her newborn pictures,
I also did an eight-month mini session with her in early spring of this year.
She still has the amazingly thick, dark hair she was born with, sweet chubby
cheeks, and a fun-loving personality. Mom tied her hair back this time to try to
keep it out of her face (and out of the frosting!) With that much hair it tends
to get a little out of control sometimes, and I remember it was always falling
into her eyes when I did her eight-month pictures, although she didn’t seem to
mind.
We did plenty of pink in Thea’s last session, and Annabelle
wanted this photo shoot to be really pink and girly also. I think we succeeded!
While the photos from our last meeting were very girly, but still pretty
simple, we went all out with this one and did lots and lots of pink, plus some
gold stars and balloons to match her sparkly outfit (which was complete with
birthday hat—how cute is that!)
I knew Thea was a sweetie from my last couple of times
seeing her. She’s always been super good for me, but as a Eugene, Oregon photographer I’ve come to accept that there’s always
an element of the unpredictable in photography—especially baby photography! When I’m doing a cake smash I never know what
kind of a reaction I’m going to get. Sometimes kiddos who usually do great with
having their picture taken end up having a complete meltdown when an unfamiliar
mound of sticky sweetness is added to the mix, so I’ll admit it was with some
trepidation that I presented Thea with her cake. I shouldn’t have worried
though. Luckily for all of us, her easygoing personality won out and she
decided she loved it! She did a fantastic job of smashing it, using both fists
and feet as equally effective demolition tools. It was fun to watch her squish
squash her way through the icing and cover herself in pink frosting from toes
to knees, fingertips to elbows, and all over her face, and I was glad she had a
good time!
This little cutie never disappoints! I always love it when I
get to have her in my photography studio
in Eugene, Oregon—we always have a great time together and it always
results in some great pictures! It’s wonderful to see how much she’s growing
and thriving, and I loved the opportunity to catch up with her mom and dad as
well. I’ve gotten to know this family pretty well over the last few years,
doing pictures for both their sweet girls (Thea’s big sister, Annalise, is two
years older than Thea) ever since they were born, and they are such amazing
people. I’m already looking forward to the next time I can have them in my
studio!
