Olivia and David brought their adorable new daughter,
Vivian, in to my photography studio in
Eugene, Oregon for a newborn mini session. She is such a cute baby and her
mom and dad are so proud of her! I can’t blame them a bit: she is a beauty and
just so precious.
Vivian was wide awake when she first came in and not totally
thrilled with the proceedings. She really didn’t want to sleep at all—which is
a little worrisome for newborn pictures, especially when it’s a mini session, because
it only gives me an hour to settle baby down and get as many great shots as I
can. I knew we would manage: Being a Eugene,
Oregon photographer has given me lots of experience in flexibility and
working with whatever my littlest clients will give me, but I was concerned
that we wouldn’t be able to get much variety. Fortunately Vivian did end up
getting sleepy and let me do exactly what I needed to get some beautiful
pictures.
We went with pink, coral, and purple for the color scheme,
and used lots of beautiful textures to give some depth to the photos. I love
the lacy covering we used for Vivian to curl up on. It gives the session just a
touch of the old-fashioned, and I think it’s perfect to balance out the larger
floral print that gives a much more modern feel. We also did lots of textures
in the blankets and hats we used to keep Vivian cozy during her newborn photography session. Soft yarns
are so perfect for babies, and I love the very loose weave of the pink wrap in
particular. It somehow combines warm comfort with an airy, elegant flow, and I
always enjoy when opposites and disparate elements like that come together. It
adds so much interest to photography and really makes you look more closely at
the pictures.
We used a few different headbands for Vivian as well, tying
in the floral theme throughout all of the pictures in our newborn photography session. The headbands all matched the rest of her
outfits and/or our backgrounds perfectly, and were the perfect pretty touch for
a beautiful little girl.
Once she fell asleep, Vivian was super good for me. She has
the cutest little mouth and liked to tuck her bottom lip in so that she made
the most adorable pout while she slept. She also has a really light fuzz of
hair on the top of her head which is just so fun to touch!
Despite our slightly rocky start, Vivian settled down pretty
quickly and the whole session went much better than I’d anticipated. I’m so
glad I got to be the newborn
photographer for this sweet baby girl. It was a pleasure to have both her
and her parents in the studio. Little Vivian is just now starting off on her
life and it was a privilege for me to be able to capture that first miraculous
stage!
