Shirree, Cam, and Claire brought in new baby Graham last
month for his newborn photography
session. It was so good to see the whole family again! I photographed Claire as
a newborn, and it was wonderful to see how much she’s grown. She is such a cute
little girl, and so excited about her baby brother!
We kept little Graham’s session pretty neutral as far as
color. We used lots of grays, whites, and creams. It’s a very natural, soothing
color scheme, and I really like how it turned out. Graham has pretty fair
coloring, like his sister, and gray always works so well with that type of skin
tone.
Claire is totally in love with her baby brother and was so
good about posing for photos with him. There are always safety issues that a
photographer has to take into consideration when photographing newborns with
older siblings. Sometimes I use composite shots to create images during newborn
baby and child photography, but
there was no need to worry about that in this session. Claire was very gentle
with Graham and loved cuddling him and giving him lots of love. They were so cute
together!
This session was a great example of the possibilities you
can explore in a full newborn
photography session. My full newborn sessions allow you to reserve my time
for up to three hours, which generally gives us plenty of wiggle room in case
baby is fussy or older siblings need some cajoling to cooperate. Full newborn
sessions also include parent and sibling images. This is completely optional,
but I think it’s a great idea to include the whole family in photos with the
new little one.
I also offer mini newborn sessions. These are shorter (up to
one hour) and do not include family images, but can be a wonderful choice if
you just want a handful of professional baby photos.
I usually like to see newborns in my Eugene, Oregon photography studio when they are between seven and
fourteen days old. At this age their little bodies are still very flexible and
easy to pose, and babies usually haven’t developed the flaky skin they sometimes
get when they’re a little bit older. Newborns under two weeks also still spend
a lot of time sleeping, which makes photographing them much easier. Since that
seven to fourteen day window gives you the most options for posing, and since my
work as a Eugene, Oregon photographer
does keep me very busy, I recommend you book your newborn session as far in
advance as possible.
It’s such a treasure to have professional photos of your new
baby, and something I highly recommend to everyone! This little guy was great
for me and I had so much fun photographing Graham and parents and big sis. It
was great to see how well they’re all doing and to reconnect at such a joyous
time. I’m so excited for Shirree, Cam, and Claire as they welcome this precious
new baby boy into their family!
